Conn and Mass used to have LOTS of dairy farms... before that there were quite a few TOBACCO farms in CT.... YES, tobacco... used to be alot of the big barns where they put the tobacco in to hang and dry...
Land got too high, milk prices were too low... farms sold out grew into lots and lots of houses...
Sad, the small farmer just can't make it on 50 cow farms... most can't make it on 100 cow herds down here anymore.
I remember seeing the big LONG wood barns, and the cheesecloth netting covering the fields for growing shade tobacco. They referred to it as "Tobacco Valley". The barn sides were made of wood planks that could be pushed outward to increase air flow.

Taking a poll on a 'coffee ethics' situation.

I'm the only coffee drinker on my shift. The company provides a coffee 'allotment' to each shift & that's kept & handed out by the supervisor. My S. seems to have some sort of memory loss that one of his team wants that coffee. I have had to ask every night - 'Can I get some coffee please?',(he hands me 3 kcups) 'Thanks. Um, can I get some creamer & sugar too please?', (he hands me 4 creamer cups & 4 sugar packets) 'There's no cups, can we get some cups please?'... I get 1.
The day shift - A LOT more people - get the whole box of kcups, a box of creamers & sugar packets, a whole sleeve of cups.... every day.
When they leave left over, I'm all set & don't have to 'beg' for coffee.
This is mildly aggravating & I sometimes bring my own mug, kcups, etc just to avoid it.
The other night I asked 4 times before he finally went to his locker & gave me 2 boxes of coffee kcups to keep in my locker (so I wouldn't bother him about it). Then I had to still ask for all the other stuff.

So here's the question.
I'm not thrilled about keeping the coffee in my locker with my shoes 😷🤢.
Would it be stealing if I brought the coffee home & just brought a handful of kcups back & forth (in case anyone else asks for some)?

I could make a big travel mug at home with my own creamer & sweetener. Then heat up a mug throughout the night as I want it.

No don't take home -- sounds like super would make waves. Bring in a big plastic bag to contain all. 😊 Or a plastic container if room....safer choice for no questions. I understand allotments per shift. Controls many things. Hey, some companies provide none. BUT night shift should!! :old

Agree, don't take it home... maybe take home ONLY what you are going to make for the next shift .... another thing to keep a log about... besides the sleeping on the job......Tell him that you will keep it all in your locker but since it is alloted to each shift, you should not have to ask for it like a kindergartener asking for a pass to go to the bathroom... if he does not want to be "bothered" you will keep it there... I would not survive with a "supervisor" like that... guess it is a good thing I have been independent for 30+++ years...

Lol.... I should probably not make posts when I've just woken up & haven't had even the home coffee yet. 🤪
Of course I shouldn't take it home. WHAT was I even thinking? 🫣
I'm just going to double bag the boxes & bring a big travel cup of sweetened creamer.

Eva was quiet when I got home Sun AM so I think I can predict her next heat to start the night of Feb 9.
🤞

This weekend there is a women's Bible conference & for Christmas I gave my sister a gift basket of a a ticket to the conference, lunch, a big 'stanley' type cup, notebook & pretty pen. I can't wait 🤗. The musical guest is Emerson Day.

Probably need to move this to a separate thread.... but just to let everyone know that Ga has posted on their Ag info (like our VDACS).... there has been one (or maybe it was 2) cases of HPAI discovered in a flock and ALL poultry related activities (shows, swaps, etc) have been cancelled in the state at this time... Flock has been depopulated and there is a quarantine for a certain area around the affected flock.
Maybe someone can move these couple of posts to a separate thread....

That's GA....I'm thinking there "might" have been a VA site toward edge of MD????? I'd say Gilmanor won't cancel unless a must -- maybe no poultry/birds.

If hatcheries mature birds are tested clean, I would think the chicks would be hatched. They're housed separately. 🤷🤔🤔. It's sure a thought. At this point, I'm thinking any broody here will be quarantined to help nest hatch. And, I can incubate. It's a BY flock but, an egg is an egg. It would get me fresh layers until things clear up. I'd like to buy some chicks this year but :idunno:fl my home raised have done well for me, so far. I added some new blood in summer 2023, also.

Hatcheries would go out of business without good biosecurity! Plus, I'd think NPIP have tightened the testing & inspections. Hoping for best.
