Morning is going sideways in a bunch of little annoying ways.
Overslept just enough to make me rushed. Morning-fogged brain decided that today was a good day to make a big salad for lunch .. which made me a little bit later. Months ago the local garage 'fixed' my defroster fan by showing me which wires to jiggle under the dash (..... I know... I'd give ANYTHING for 1 honest mechanic within 50miles) and I had to stop before getting out of my drive to get that going again. At that point, I was going to JUST make it to work if NOTHING else happened. 5mins from the gate a text comes in - the scale operator also overslept and won't be in for 30mins or so. Clocked in 1 min late, opened the gate for the trucks to start pulling on the scale and rushed up to get the scale open for the day. Scale operator arrived and I rushed back to my office to gather all the data from yesterday's close to submit for my 7:30 call. Been up 2.5hrs and STILL haven't had coffee....
Call is over - scale is under control - COFFEE IS NEXT!

Well just getting cup 2....I need it!

Lilly gotten out of trailer, looking fine, walked along nicely on lead. She had lovely orchard/alf for breakfast in there....stitch up looking great!!

Then chores. What a mess after 2" of unneeded rain yesterday & overnite. Squishy, puddles, surface mud is slick. Aaaannd windy! 🙄. Really screws up all your plans. On way home from vet last night, saw 2 cars in ditches -- not together -- plus another wreck. Thankfully that was not on my side of the roadways. Even vet had been held up by a wreck as he was returning to the facility.

Since not much I can accomplish effectively outside, I'm thinking what CAN I do with my day? I don't want to even look at any lists. 😂🤣

@Mini Horses will her udder heal up ok? Will she be able to give milk off both sides? Poor girl! I hope she heals up with no residual issues.

@Blue Sky how is your old girl? I hope she is better.

I stayed on a dead run yesterday, got home past 2, crashed and took a nap. Neighbor held the ram lamb while I cut him. In a couple of weeks I’ll wean him and he can go keep the bow-legged ewe company. Reina only got 3 eye drop treatment’s yesterday. I’m on the down slide so far today, slept past 8, sleep hangover, still in house robe, no chores done, everybody hates me by now. Ain’t that too bad? Frost and frozen when I finally got up, it’s sunny out, I really need to get motivated and get outside and do chores.

Some days I’m the bug, some days I’m the windshield. Today I’m the bug splattered by the windshield.

Making myself get up, get dressed, start on chores and make sure Reina gets 6 eye drops today plus her night time drop. It is a FIGHT.

We saw no damage beyond an attempt to skin alive 🙄🥴. Feelings are it will heal, be sore until it does,. be fully functional. She kids 3-4 wks out. Antibiotics and pain meds for several days. I'll keep check on tenderness factor at kidding and bottle babes if need be -- due to their tendency to butt!

Now I'll be the hated with shots. A little grain distraction and we'll be fine. At least she's tame! 👍 Comes when called.

We were blessed -- no worse than, I was home and good livestock vet available....who does a lot of surgical work.

Disclaimer. Numerous days of little and interrupted sleep. Old lady ewe got another dose of calcium, supplements, feed, water. Couldn’t sling her but I staged her over a half barrel/ feed bunk. Resting on her chest and belly with the ability to take weight on her feet. Nope. She’s recumbent again. Eating, drinking and looking like Cleopatra on her barge. Had two more lambs so I’m up to 15 with 3 losses. Gabby nursed like a champ at 4a and is nearly comatose at 8. This is the pattern, nurse then steep decline. Something just goes wrong after she eats. Scours are gone. Number two bl named Haley after Hubb’s annoying coworker :plbb Haley has finally decided I’m ok and takes her bottle.
Take sways- sheep mineral may have prevented old ewe’s problems. I have to order it because feed stores claim to order it but they never get it in ad nauseum.
Walmart cloth blend tablecloth makes decent newborn lamb bedding. Wicks urine, cleans up with the hose and dries quickly. Time for zzzs.

@Mini Horses I think we've had enough rain in Dec/Jan to carry us through July!! I've got about an 1" of standing water EVERYWHERE. It's not possible to walk anywhere without getting wet up to my knees from the splashing. Thankfully we've got a few days of sun & breezes coming up.

@Baymule give yourself some grace. :hugs You've just gotten back from a wonderful but exhausting trip. Everyone will be fine even if most of the morning chores were a total pass. How long does Reina get drops?? It might be better in the long run to miss a does here and there early on than for her to totally refuse to cooperate for the last couple of days. How do you put drops in a horse's eyes? Their lids are so muscular. I had to do it with my pony once - a LONG time ago. But she was a pocket-puppy and so low that I could drop a lead over the stall wall and hold her muzzle up in the air.

@Blue Sky you've got your hands FULL. Prayers for yours

Unsure but, looking like the anesthesia needed to fix my doe may very well have caused fetal mortality. 😭. I see swelling that would signal my looking for kidding. Sad if so but, she had to have this done. It's a bummer, for sure. I'm on pins and needles now....and feeling so badly for Lilly. 😫🙏. I'm sure twins, maybe trips. She's big. Will update as I see more. Life isn't always kind.
