Since you all are talking weather - 49 to 70 today cloudy now who knows later. On the cool side for here - not complaining (though seed germination and tomato fruit set is slow at best). Protea farm tour last weekend was great.

Morning. Just looked at the chore list myself. Wow has the tractor helped. We should have gotten one long ago. Hubbs counted over 100 cars waiting at an area food bank. If ever anyone doubts the wisdom of being prepared for rough times, rethink it. We gave away our roosters except for Cogburn Junior. It is really quiet without the rooster follies, there was always some Benny Hill style chase going on between the barn and henhouse. (My grandmother was a huge fan of Benny Hill) me not so much but where the Roos were concerned it’s apt. Off to chores for me. Have a good day everyone. :weee

Same thing I thought 2 wks after buying my tractor!! 🤣

And our food bank store, always booked out, by appointment. Plus once a month drive thru usually has 250+. Garden is killer work but feeds me all year basically. Plus families where I share.

In fact, I've worked that garden so much this week that I'm looking forward to going to work tomorrow 😳🤣 I need a rest!

Where I volunteer, clients are allowed to come once a month. Used to be 2x a month, but had to reduce starting in 2024. Tooooo many people in need to be able to service them all. We are open two times a day, Mon - Fri.

They pull up out front and we go get their names to look up on the data base to make sure that they are registered and haven't been here already this month.

@murphysranch do you all make up a "package" that each car gets? That's what happens at the one drive thru here. At the "store" things are out to choose, on shelves, bins, etc, with a sign as to the limit they can have of each item. There are far more items to be gotten there...canned goods, produce, a meat or two, usually some dairy. They usually get more at the store front set up. Amazing the numbers going thru.

The food bank does a good work. But I can’t help but wonder, why don’t some of those people plant a garden and take responsibility for their one selves. Same thing for people on food stamps.
AGREE. it's a shame that in order to help those who truly need help -- sometimes just temporarily -- that others take advantage of the system. 😞 There's no great answer. What's worse is that there are those with more need, who don't take part...no transport, too proud, etc. Homeless -- another issue to tackle. ☹️. Both problems run the gamut -- good, bad, sad & in need.

This morning I'm pretty fogged in 😁. Clearing slowly. Having the morning brew and leaving for work in a short bit. Should be home early afternoon. Time for some farm work with DST daylight 'til 8. 👍. Maybe some tractor time.

Out here there is 4 full time neighbors down at the bottom of the ridge, I skip going to town on Tuesdays cause it's the day the trailerhood gets together and makes a run on the food bank. Reason I skip that day if I can help it is each time I have found them broke on the side of the road or in town.
If they are so poor then how do they afford 20 acres living out here running generators with Starlink for internet and one of them gets 90% disability cause they got diabetes while in the service yet works full time job in town at the local county jail. There is more, but it just angers one.

Welp I digress, a day of rain today without rain in the forecast. I will hopefully sink the well pump in today, we are at critical low clean water right now so something needs to give. Yes I collected a lot from the pig pond, but that's for them to wallow in and for gardening, not for the animals to consume. If push comes to shove load the water tank up and get some from town.
