Thanks for that report! Not having it soon...but always nice to know :yesss: :idunno. I have a groundhog that chatters at me when I approach the cage trap. Maybe another will get into the one next to it -- so it won't go off alone.. I know there were AT LEAST 3...so, better buy some cantalope tomorrow for bait. 👹 I'll set another trap.

By the way... we had bear steak last night.

It was good. Sadly, has to be well done... but other than that tasted like standard roast.
Trichinosis and the treatment are seriously bad news. My friend Amy spent 7 months dealing with worsening symptoms and several hospitalizations until doc figured it out. Then 2 rounds of anti-parasite treatment with a 2.5 months in between while her liver recovered from the side effects. Each round was $92,000.

I didn't even think it could be cured!

I am very glad that your friend got better! Does she know where she got it?

The parasite makes incredible cysts. Which is why the meat must be well done. No amount of freezing kills it... which I find fascinating.

It is a fascinating and horrible parasite. I was amazed when we moved up here and I learned it was prevalent up here. There is lots of it in Texas and Mexico... I just thought that in frozen areas there would be way fewer parasites.

But... lots of trichinosis up here. :idunno

A little off point but reminded me of this. Not about micro parasites but something I hear every fall.

Back in the old days (at least in the plains & mid south) they would burn after bad winters. It became and still is often misunderstood that the cold winter kills the mosquitoes, ticks and other pest. I still hear, "I hope it stays/gets cold enough to kill this or that." I say if that would work north of us would never have ticks or mosquitoes.

Ag teacher in school said put a tick in the freezer in a bag, leave it 6 months, bring it back to room temp and it will come back to life. Take a match to it and he's dead immediately.

It's strange what can survive totally frozen!! Botulism needs heat, a full 240+. Trichinosis ya need over 170, through entire meat, so well done!!

Thankfully we don't see it in beef normally, I like my steak very pink☺️. But pork, well done, because it's better that way. Chicken, oh my -- NO pink, that tastes rank. My pressure canned chicken gets enough temp -- comes out boiling.

We have some amount of risk with everything we eat -- even veggies. 🥴. Geesh misdiagnoses in deadly & costly! 😱

But ya can't live on coffee alone  although there are days when we try! Think donuts are safe? :hu:hide

Today more fence work. This home all week is hard work but, sure makes you hate the thought of going back to work. I like the "no obligation" to do for a job.👍🤐
