Morning all. YouTube channel History and Coffee has an episode called Medieval Nights/ The Lost Tradition of Two Sleeps. It explained that for hundreds of years people slept in two shifts. Retiring after sunset then waking around one to three a.m. for something called “the watch”. During that time people would stoke fires, tend to small chores, check livestock etc. Then the second sleep began and lasted until sunrise. Industrialization and electricity changed sleep patterns. There’s also evidence that two sleeps goes back even further and may be the norm. So the 2 a.m. club is normal. Hooray for us. :p

I remember reading that before, about the two sleeps, but had forgotten it. Thanks!

Back on schedule today, up at 5:15, punched in just after 6am, so I got my 10 hours. If I do the same the next three days I will take off on Friday. I get more done with a three day weekend.

Everyone was sympathetic, which made for a hard day emotionally, but I got through. Got home late so didn't get much interaction with my flock.

I had my second sleep, woke up at 7. Had a 2 hour toss and turn in between. A shower came up and I realized the dogs were out on the field with no shelter. I didn’t put them up last night. I was contemplating getting up and going outside to put them in Coopers pen, but it stopped. Snooze…..
