I guess I should've started a pot for everyone else when I got up. I figured starting at 3.30 you'd still be asleep and it might get cold.lol Shoot I think it took an hour for me to grab a computer and longer to get on here. Dern time change.

Weather said clear day today and "possible" dusting tomorrow, 24 hours later it is saying "possible" dusting tonight. Now it is saying winter weather advisory this morning of 4 plus inches of snow with blizzard like conditions with it drifting starting this afternoon.

Hey Y'all!
I apologize for not getting on here everyday, my part time job went to 3 days from 2 days then it went to 4 days from 3 days and now this week I'm only working 1 day.
How was everyone's Halloween? I've still got a little candy remaining but the Milky Way and 3Musketeers are off limits (they belong to H).

Me on Halloween!!!! I did that using just regular makeup. I have Halloween special effects makeup for next year so I will be improving on that.

Other thought... chicken wire will fence poultry, but it will not keep out dogs, or any difficult type predator. You need chain link, or goat fence for dogs, hardware cloth for rodents, weasels, and to keep out raccoon hands.

The pen we have Don & Daizy DUCKS in is chain link. Wouldn't rodents, weasels and raccoons eventually chew through the hardware cloth? Speaking of Don & Daizy she laid 3 eggs yesterday. I had to carefully and quickly (but I didn't touch them) move 2 eggs away from where the pool sits seeing how I knew she wouldn't be able to sit on them there. She was sitting on them last night and when I was just out there to check on their pool and feed I noticed there is only 1 now. My question is now that she is laying and sitting do I have to move Don out of that pen?

Depends on the thickness of the hardware cloth. Also, you can use the hardware cloth as a second layer.

She was sitting on them last night and when I was just out there to check on their pool and feed I noticed there is only 1 now. My question is now that she is laying and sitting do I have to move Don out of that pen?

1. Feel free to pick up the eggs with your hands. That is totally fine.

2. Did she make a nest? Or just randomly lay the eggs? She might be laying eggs, and not actually going broody.

If they are going broody, they usually make a nest, and after laying a few eggs, or many eggs.. then sit tight on the nest, rarely leaving the nest.

With our ducks, it was easy to tell when they went broody, since they turn themselves into a pancake.. to better cover the eggs. Chickens get all fluffy, and poof out.

Also... odd that eggs are disapearing.... you want to see if you can figure out who is eating them. Since she is already down to 1 egg, and it is fall, I would just take and eat whatever she lays.

And... as in brooding and hatching in a flock.... Don only has to leave if he doesn't behave himself.

The male is SUPPOSED to be just fine in there, and if anything, be in a role of protector. However, not all people breed and select for proper parenting instincts... so, there is no way to know how he will act ahead of time.

Nothing wrong with moving the nest... she might except the nest in a new spot, and she might not... but a nest in a bad spot probably will not hatch any eggs anyway...

So, in my opinion it is worth the risk.
