Hubbs has been in hot pursuit of a ten point buck. Blind built. He’s spent days in it. Hubbs did Not grow up in a hunting family. Which is why he got a scope bite a month ago. At 64. That’s ok. So I’m driving down the driveway about 1/2 mile. There’s an old barn at the end where we store round bales. Out walks the buck with a mouthful of hay, a doe following. They disappear. I call Hubbs and say I saw your buck it was eating hay in the road barn. Swearing about sitting in an uncomfortable blind in the rain ensues. Personally I’m rooting for the buck if for no other reason I don’t want to gut the thing. I grew up in a hunting culture but critters got shot away from the house.
That’s funny. I can understand your husband wanting the rack on that buck, there’s proof that he is a hunter. Personally I’d prefer the doe. Buck meat can get raunchy. Edible, made into sausage. I used to buy a whole beef brisket and grind up with the buck meat. I made sausage, stuffed it and smoked it. Fabulous.
I hope he gets the buck. He should have the hide tanned and hang it on the wall. I like the bare skull and antler mount better than the glass eyed taxidermist mount. Yes, he should have his proof that he is a hunter.
