@ Baymule I’m glad you’re warmer. We are chopping ice every 90 minutes and feeding square bales. Our home grown round bales have a lot of junk in them. Before we moved in the pastures were fiercely overgrazed by cattle. They had devolved to knee high wild blackberry and thistles. We have mowed, chopped thistle and will probably add lime.

Just getting awake. Dreading the hot water toting, ice breaking morning I know is waiting for me. Big boots for today...the tall, warm, waterproof ones. Dang, I hate this white stuff! 😡😱🥶🥶😜. Coffee first!! Gotta go make a pot.

Late yesterday I looked out and saw 25-30 wild turkey in field next door. Big ones.

Good frosty morning!

It's 20°F this morning, electric power still on, I am thankful.

We have an inch or so of frozen precipitation on the ground, and everything else is covered in ice. The ground is hard enough to bear my weight with minimal crunching noises.

I watered the flock, but before I could get inside the run I had to chip ice off the carabiners. The door was slightly frozen, a nudge with my hip took care of it.

The shade cloth I have on top of the hoop coop has kept the majority of winter precipitation off the ground inside the run. I believe it makes life just a little easier for the chickens.

I was up till 11:30. Then couldn’t go to sleep. Last time I looked at the clock, it was 1:10AM. I woke up at 7:15. Its 21F wind is 10 MPH with gusts up to 23 MPH. That wonderful breeze I have in the summer is not my friend right now. Sheep and dogs are not stirring yet. Baby chicks are warm and fine. Going to be a high of 39, but not until 3:30, so I’ll be drudging outside toting buckets of boiling water. I only fill half full. Can’t carry a full 5 gallon bucket, and half full keeps boiling water from slopping out on me.

A feel like temp of 15 but winds died down & wasn't bad out. 👍 Of course, I could barely move with the gear I had on but, bottled the 3 kids and delivered hay to all the inside racks -- where the goats were waiting; yeah, inside sheds waiting!! What's all that white stuff, mom???? Well, a few ventured about 50' to another covered area for hay there (less crowded) and it's where the large heated water tub is sitting. Didn't tote hot water. Used some from a 5 gal heated bucket inside barn for the two does/kids in barn stalls. Some other big tubs had holes in ice where I'd busted late yesterday...then snow piled on those and insulated from re-freeze. So a tunnel hole to water. 👍👍 Added buckets of clean snow into heated units, melt for more water. There's PLENTY of clean snow, no one wants to walk much

I go about 7" overall. It's pretty dry stuff. Still a mess to walk thru, especially since you can't any unlevel spots -- and it packs into the tracks of your boots like ice. Walk slow & careful. Main roads are being cleared nicely -- per TV pics on news -- so prob only a day or two at home 🤞😁

Since MY snow is whiter than others  here's a pic..

Up off the low of 14. Slight breeze and hopefully 36 today. We lost power from 2-9:30a. Generator worked like a champ. Kitchen hot water is frozen but all else is fine. Sophie was ill overnight. I’m not providing details- :sick so I’m shamelessly napping after lunch.
