BURRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

Down to 18' tonight and high of 29' tomorrow in Olympia, WA.

Do you all do anything special for your goats when it gets this cold?

Heaters, blankets, special food, keeping them in the barn, etc.

Supposed to be 24 here tonight (I'm about 1000' higher than town, so probably even colder). I'd like to hear this too? I just put a bunch more straw down for them.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

We just make sure all the shelters are draft free and have a good, thick bedding of straw and free choice hay. No feeding changes.

It was 9' at my place at 6 am. Close to a 1/2" of ice in their water bucket despite adding very warm water to it last night.

I put down lots of straw in their sleeping den that's 3' x 4' covered and made out of pallets they like to go into to sleep that's located in the chicken run that's covered and enclosed on 3 sides. They hate their goat shelter that's on the other side of the chicken coop and run because they can't see the house from there and cry their little heads off all night.

I couldn't tell they ate any of their hay last night at all. They ate some Purina Goat Chow with minerals and BOSS (black oiled sunflower seeds), and all the blackberry vines I cut and bungy corded to a post.

Their long nubie ears were warm this morning, so they must have stayed warm.

18 or 29' is not too cold for goats. The worst thing you could do for them is to use any type of heater or blanket. Give them good food, liquid water twice a day, adequate shelter and good bedding, and leave them alone.

From a 4-H family down in Oregon City. When I got mine in Oct, they had a couple yearlings available that they offered to have bred if I wanted.

Being a beginner, I wanted to start out with the 6 month olds.

The Mom's milk was WONDERFUL. They're great goats. I bought a goat stand from a kinder breeder in Roy who dropped it off and checked over my goats and said that they are really well bred, great top line, nice chest, and great udder attachment on my doeling.

I paid $100.00 for the doeling and $45.00 for the wether.

Let me know if you want their email or website.

Has been getting cold here in NE Ohio too... have had a couple nights in the teens.. in fact Sunday when I went down to my barn the thermometer inside the barn read around 22 degrees.. man was I cold... everyone seems to do fine with cold.. I did break out the warm water for them... and do they know!!!! they actually wait for me hauling the bucket with warm water and I can't even get in the gate before at least two of them are drinking from the bucket.. so by the time I get to bucket hanger it is time to fill up again... I don't know about the goats but I am sure not ready for cold weather... I was kinda getting used to many days around her pushing 50.. that is my kind of NE Ohio winter!!!!!
