I tap mine on the nose and tell them no when they nibble. They are learning. Elijah, the 4 month old buckling follows us everywhere. Last week he got a little rambunctious and ran into the back of my leg with his horns, I knew it was an accident, so I didn't do anything.....then he did it again. The second time, I put him on his side immediately and held him there til he stopped struggling. He has not done it since. Accident or not, he now knows NOT to hit Mama with horns, she don't take it well. Dude had to have the same lesson. I think all bucks have to try it one time, just to prove they are bucks.
My two goat girls do that too. It's affection. Mine bleat to me all the time. If I bleat back, they bleat louder and more frenetically. My husband says, "Good grief!" They really are funny!
It is affection, lol. But, it hurts! My goats have learned to show their affection in a much gentler fashion. They are goats not people, so I treat them like goats, but they also had to learn to treat people like people and not goats.......its a two way street.
Thanks everyone. I've been trying to correct the behavior...but my herd queen (Fauna) is pretty darned stubborn! She can also get very jealous of Flora or Jimmy getting any attention from me as well. Flora is the climber...and both girls have started to nibble on my hair. They scream all the time for me...no matter if my husband and daughter are outside with them...if they catch a wiff of my presence at home...the screaming goes on and on and on! Jimmy is thankfully not a climber OR nibbler...so he's good.
