I'm one of those people, and I agree! Despite my dreams of living in the country and living off the land, that is the exact reason my DH looks at me says "suuuuuure whatever you want" city girl in California where it never snows and I'm shivering in my boots in 35° weatherI kind of feel sorry for people that don't know where their food comes from. If they ever had to wake up and do it themselves there's so many small things like this that stack against them.
I think people underestimate animals' ability to acclimate and adapt. Fresh, deep bedding and some buddies to snuggle up to keep the critters happy and warm all winter long. All 6 months of snow on the ground Even the guinea pigs do okay in the negative temps in outdoor colonies.

But, I really enjoyed reading this thread - learned something to put in my back pocket for if my dream ever comes true.
That's so true!!! I never imagined that there are people keeping Water Buffaloes in Canada, Sweden, Norway and Minnesota until I saw their videos.
:O
That doesn't sound sane.
