Moved the 2 rex furred Unity kits out.

$267 in the red. 8 bags for garden at 3eaand Unity sale at 25.

Currently $218 in the red.

There's like 29-30 if all kept now. That's 10 too many.
Ella is listed, Unity sold, Yynx & Jessi listed, Jasper & Baymax listed. Won't cull Baymax, though. Too attached to him.
Do I keep the young blue buck to replace Zippy or not? 14wks and 6.65#. What was Zippy? He was 8.30# at 5mo, but what about at 14wks? Left the notebook in the barn...

This says Zippy is the looser or they're almost equal??

11wk and 5 days is almost 12wk. Other is just 11wk, so, 5 days less of growth. But had to switch feed recently, so, Aqua buck may actually be faster, right??
20240606_183242.jpg

Which would you keep??
Should I keep both to watch how the younger grows??
Seems to have a little more depth than Zippy.
Same sire, Rivian.
GridArt_20240606_184034587.jpg

Ella kits. 5 born, at 4.5wk, only 2 are left. A regular furred and a rex furred. At 9wk, 3.01 & 4.23#, but that's a fake weight, since only 2 were left, so all that extra milk was for just the two. So, I shouldn't keep the regular fur, right??
Gawd, why is this so difficult?!

GridArt_20240606_120736166.jpg

Comparing 4.5wk weight of rex furred that was just 2 kits, so fast growth, to the Goliath 4.5wk kits....
1.36 vs 1.48 & 1.24.

Have 4wk rex weights and 5wk rex weights to compare, 1.05 & 0.97 are their averages. So, these Goliath kits are growing faster currently!

14 is not feeding her kits!! One dead. Moved rest to Ella nest and shelved her kits for the night. I did try to put them on 14, she has milk so idk wtf she's doing! They didn't get anything out of her. I don't get it, since i can express milk from all teats. So pissed off. Glad I didn't cull her previous doe, because I'm getting rid of 14 now!

A lot has happened since the last post, both horrible and good. I'll condense as much as possible.

June 11th
Sugar×Rivian
1 dead, 3 dead at early stages, mummies.
39540-3877b22af47beb9e242ace6a2f4430c7.jpeg

One of the 4 RM14 kits died, stepped on I'd guess, full of milk.

Took out Widy and put her with Ella kits.

June 12th
The 3 fosters are still fed with Ella.
Ella's kits are fed, somewhat, by Widy.

Lynx nest was removed, kits in with her now.

June 13th
Moved Fennel & kits in the outdoor growout.

June 15th
3 fosters full.

The blue Aqua buck got violent with me yesterday. So his hide is in the freezer and and rest of him dogfood!
One less mouth to feed.

Fennel kits are much more curious and friendly, now in the big housing.

Forgot I had hay cubes! Started feeding them.

June 17th
Ebony moved to a bigger cage with her kits I'm still watching.

June 19th
Moved some buns around again.
Culled 2.
Jessi n kits got a bigger cage.
Lost a RM14 kit. Though, the lost one was very full, so, idk why it died. Only 2 fosters left.

Got a mini thermometer & humidity reader for the barn.

June 20th
RM14's survivors got out of nest this morning. Hot all week and next, foster mom letting them snuggle, so removed nest.
Her actual kits are doing well with Widy.

Moved 10 to cull cages this morning.

Outside 3 litters, some of their weights. Random order. Some of the cull weights not included, as I started to remove them immediately instead of taking a pic of their weight. No posed pics of them.

June 22nd
*sigh*
I was right that Cinder doe was obese. So much internal fat. Poor girl was due a nest on the 26th. Died today during 98F+ temps...
39712-1877887a4da728f4f3da79af279f6e0e.jpeg

Quincy & Licorice are due a nest on the 27th. Broken Freckles' doe on the 29th, Cinder doe was her neighbor...She had a wet nose/mouth, but survived. Sure hope this weather breaks.

Ordered more of those cheap mats.
39714-33a0d2b191d0261e36dee0358ae0c667.jpeg

Idk how lone adults die, but these morons are perfectly fine...5ft cage and they crowd together.

In a 2 level cage, lays on kid and another crowds mom. 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️
39715-d685e630e60d15ce8b4b0390c0f62c10.jpeg39716-b79bd03d2fcf0ec7a65692bef7570b39.jpeg

The smarts of rocks.

Long ago, hah, when I first started, I had them in the shed next to the house. It got a new window last year or before. New siding. I wonder if I should move them in there...
It's tiny, but I can heat it in winter and cool it in summer.
A window unit would limit space further. I'd have to make 4-5 hole high caging. Doing 2×4ft cages would limit buns a ton.
Maybe it's best to cull off adults and move them all into that little shed...

June 23rd
Sugar kits still had a nest, just cardboard bottom, though.
Yesterday, before finding the Cinder doe, I noticed one kit screamed when I blew air on them.
So, I moved them all into the cage. But then dunked them all in cool water.
This morning, all are alive and acting more normally. But it'll be another boiling day...Hoping being out in the cage will help some.

The two RM14 kits with Ella, are doing well.

June 25th
New Rex is digging out food, so moved her to a different cage. That meant Yynx and kits got her larger cage.

Ordered QuikStrike, didn't have a sprayer or brush, but that was good, because they get stuck....Dead flies stuck to beams and walls to clean off later or a bucket. Easy choice.

June 26th

$218 in the red. 30 in dog food. Counting the cull kits, heatstroke doe, Jessi & Jasper adults a bit early. 3 of them left to cull.

Currently $188 in the red.

Ordered a fan with a closed motor and supposedly shuts off if it overheats.

Forgot adults are 2 meals.
$188 in the red. Correction of 6$.

Currently $182 in the red.
1 left to cull. Then weighing every kit for next cuts.

June 28th
8 new culls.

Grow out cage minus the new culls.

Was nice out yesterday, got new pics and weights. Keep wanting to cull most out, but spent all this time growing them up. Ugh.

Ugh, falling apart. To cull or not...I don't show or eat them as adults, so technically them falling apart once old doesn't matter. Shape at 8-12wks is most important for meat. Guess I need to remember that.
39786-7543ab2d71fd7069208111aa9ddc16cb.jpeg

good shape, but is it enough to keep her...
39787-84e00c958a2e01e7d2c75e71a9ebf888.jpeg

bred yesterday. Very lovely, dense fur on her.
39788-9c2956afb37330bc173444b575f98855.jpeg

looking like the Charlie doe is best. Gotta check her growth to the previous doe's growth. Other is due a nest soon.
39789-9ad512b7bfda2b9495d46aec567dca90.jpeg

Fennel kits. Looking crappy. Might just cull them all out. Sister Licorice is due to kindle any day now. If her kits also suck, I'll cull them all out.

Ella's 2 does. what were they, 2nd gen? So want to keep to cross to their own fur breeds for 3rd gens.

The difference between different posing, knees up vs knees down! Shape. Changes dramatically.

June 30th
$182 in the red. 8 dogfood culls, 16. Finally culled Jasper. Still waiting on 14 to regrow fur before culling her out.

Currently $166 in the red.

Waiting on Licorice, Quincy & Sugar's doe to have their kits. Will cull them if they fail.

July 1st
Licorice × Zippy. Today has been a nice, cold day.
First litter, 7 kits. Black, blue & lilac, it looks like.
39803-5445b205b31da129cd3dd6833ae6e79e.jpeg39804-c589fceab988186a30f6b3b4d6ee7968.jpeg

Tomorrow is supposed to be another cool day. Waiting on Quincy to have her first litter. Then the Freckles' doe. Also waiting on hay to arrive.

July 2nd
Finally got booted colored!
But bred Quincy to Baymax, Goliath & Jasper. So, time will tell who some are or aren't.
20240703_155330.jpg
Just freckles' doe to wait on.

July 3rd
8 more culls.

Grow out cage minus the new culls.

Freckles's doe had 8 and all dead, culled her out. Tons of fur pulled, she was sitting on them. 🤬

Licorice was also sitting on her kits today. Not well fed. If they die, she's getting culled out, too.

Moved some buns around. Goliath got Freckles' doe's cage. Lynx & kits got both of Goliath/Jasper cage, divider removed.

One huge rat found dead. But feeders still have rat poop in them. Added tops to them. They're avoiding the poison & traps. I hate rats.

Moved 14 to cull cage. Moved around more buns, 3 stackers now empty to work on.
14's doe moved to newsf's cage. Newsf & kits moved to 14's cage.
Moved newrex to next to Licorice.

Licorice kits, maybe 2 blues instead of a lilac.

Lynx & kits. Not as fast growing, but huge ears on some of them vs how the Baymax kits had smaller ears. 🤔

$166 in the red. 8 poo bags at 4ea, one adult bun for two, 4. 36

Currently $130 in the red.

July 8th
Licorice keeps peeing on them or they're peeing on each other and she's not cleaning them. So, dumped nest and rebuilt it. Washed and dried kits. Hoping things get better thinking of culling her out.

$130 in the red. 30 bags of 18% feed at 528.

Currently $658 in the red.
20240708_153351.jpg

July 9th
Ugh, they're gross again... Gotta use soap next time. Idk what to do about this issue??
And one fat one was on the ground!

July 10th
They're worse than before, one fed but dead. Skinny one moved to Quincy nest.
Washed with dawn, 2 had fur/poop caked on their feet, bottoms and mouth/nose! Even their teeth were stained.
New nest, new fur, back in nest and now it's blocked off unless I'm there to watch. She was sitting in it when I brought back the washed kits. So, that's probably how some are fed, but all are filthy. She doesn't care. Her sister did excellent, so, Licorice is getting culled out as soon as possible.

Smallest in with Quincy kits. Gave mom grass to hopefully distract her from the smell of it.

Moved one or two to cull cage, forgot to double check.
Licorice is refusing to feed them, 2 died. Held her to feed the rest, tossed her into a cull cage and moved her kits in with Quincy. No idea if she can feed that many, but will hold Licorice over the nest once a day and hope they recover with Quincy caring for them.
With Licorice out, removed two dividers. The older Ella sisters got her cage. Lynx's doe moved down to their old cage. Then the bottom cage, Tipsy & Vickie does moved in.

Ella's kits. The one under 2# moved to cull cage. Why are they icky looking and feeling?? Turns out it's the tile in their cage. Ugh. It looks clean, only because they lay in their urine and their fur soaks it up...It's gone now, so hopefully they can groom themselves clean, if not, they'll get a bath.
20240711_112500.jpg20240711_112741.jpg

14's survivors. Doe's coat feels close to a real sf's coat. Buck's coat is long n fluffy, just like a full sf. 5wks 2days.

You know what this pic tells me? Posing is a scam. 🤬
How can the same rabbit look so vastly different? How can some breeders choose to force the pose for the better looking one and just go with it? How can they "breed" for anything when it's a lie?

Screenshot_20240711_124825_Gallery.jpg

Middle 2, bracing forward. Top row is more relaxed. Bottom and last in middle is fully relaxed. 😭

The rest of the litter posed fancy, but it's not real...What am I supposed to do now? What, how do I breed for better shape when it's easy to get so many different looks from the same rabbit? Years ago, I said the spine is plyable and the shape can be created by hand. The collage proves that. People laughed and belittled me for it. But _ them, because I'm still correct.

Are we breeding for what it can be posed into?? Is that it?

The rest.

Hmm, the colors make me wonder. Black otter, blue otter, castor, lynx? and lilac otter?

Very behind again.
Got 11 bigger juniors & proven does, plus 6 kits to sell/butcher.

Currently $298 in the red.

Got some new stock. Culling a lot of old stock. Probably will cull further once the 17 are gone.

Two new Rex does.
I don't remember what else is new or not from before.

That overpriced sf doe, still spooky, thin, didn't grow. Her daughter is super spooky. Ugh.

A rm14 doe turned out to be a buck! Culling him bc the younger rm14 buck grew better and has better shape. Though, he's mean, so I'll have to be careful.
