I have an 11 month old mini mancha that I was hoping was pregnant, I've been watcning for signs of heat. Yesterday I noticed stuff clumped on her tail, no other unusual behavior. Today she has some yellowish vaginal discharge, again no unusual behavior. Does it sound like she's in heat or could something be wrong? When I bought her she had already been bred and they were sketchy on the dates but I think if she was not pregnant this would have been about the time that she would go into heat.

Well, I just spoke with the breeder that these goats were bought from. He thinks it is an infection since she is showing no other signs of being in heat besides the vaginal discharge and swelling( I have recently noticed). He might be able to take a look at her tomorrow to see what he thinks.

:welcome

That is probably a good idea for the goat breeder to see it. To me it seems like it might be heat but it is so hard to say when you aren't actually looking at the goat.

Hopefully it is just heat and not an infection. :fl

I don't fret too much over a little discharge...as long as it's not foul smelling or blood tinged.

Clear, running discharge (drippy) is what you see with a heat.

How bred might she be?

The discharge isn't clear or drippy, it's yellowish and thick.

Well, she was supposed to have been bred around 1/8/10 (very approximate). The thing that makes me confused re: infection is that she had something similar around three weeks ago. At that time I wasn't sure what to think either and when it happened again now I automatically thought OK, she must be in heat. But this breeder really thinks she should be having other signs of being in heat. As far as foul smelling, I'm not sure. She's very skittish, I hadn't really gotten close enough to notice any.
This breeder said if he thinks it is infection he thinks I should give her penicillin.
When I bring her out to this breeder today, he has a buck, so we can see if he's interested.
Are bucks only interested in mating when does are in heat?

It probably depends on the buck. But your doe won't be interested in breeding if she isn't in heat.
