THANKS so much... she feels fine today and has even been wagging her tail.... still not smiling... but we are getting closer. I think she might have been depressed....

Mineral feeder ..... is it something special or just a container with loose minerals in it? Can I put an entire cup of minerals in it or how much. Do they eat what they need and not more than they need?

You can use any container but the black two compartment mineral feeders are just perfect for the job. You need loose minerals made just for goats. They contain salt, which gets them to eat it more. So don't have other sources of salt available or they won't get enough minerals...even baking soda is salty and will keep them from eating enough minerals.

You put a small amount into the bin and check it every day. Give them enough so that they clean it up every 2-3 days. If they don't finish it, scrape it out with your hand and add some fresh minerals. The amount they eat varies from day to day and week to week....usually more when it is hot, but not always. It is a matter of experimenting. They will eat what they need, for the most part.

ETA: Start with....maybe an ounce per goat the first day, like 1/4 cup. See how they respond and add more if they clean it up. If they haven't had it for a while they will likely gobble it down the first day or two or three then level off. So don't put too much out or eventually it will get wasted. However, get used to the idea of tossing some out as they won't eat it if it is not fresh. It will develop mildew in damp weather or when there is high humidity. They also tend to poop in it. :rant Good thing they are cute! :D
