there's plenty of brush in my grandparents' pasture in the summer but do I have to feed in the winter? They have 13 acres and I'll only have 8-12 boer goats.

Depends are your winters cold and snowy?

Is the acreage heavily overgrown?

If not then you may need to hay them. Goats need minerals, I imagine.

They do need a good loose goat mineral no matter what. If you get cold and snow, you will have to provide them with something. Plus if you are planning to have kids, then you will need to feed the moms so they produce good milk. And they will need some sort of shelter from the elements.

Yes, goats need free choice GOAT minerals, changed every day or two.

And hay and fresh water. If you keep an eye on their condition, you may not need to grain them.

I give our does 2 cups of 16% goat feed twice a day in winter. Mine are Nubians.

The wethers get 1 cup in the evening, and lots of hay, goat mineral and of course, fresh water.

My husband has a ranger, he cuts small trees for the goats that only have pasture (the boys) and drags them over
for them every day or two.
