Hey everyone soon I am getting a calf that I am going to raise and train to be ridden. Do they make saddles that can be put on cows and steers? Would a regular horse saddle work?
No, I don't think they make saddles for cows; no demand, and I doubt a horse saddle would be very comfy for the cow; too different in shape.
You might be able to adapt a bareback pad for horses; don't use the supplied stirrups they will rub the cow raw getting on and off. May want to think about what the cow might have to say about a cinch as well.
Riding a cow is highly overrated. I used to ride the milk cow home when I was young and and even more stupid then I am now, but don't recommend it. Very slow or fast and rough if things don't go well; they are very stubborn, and worse then a mule with a bad attitude if they get something on their mind. Camel riding sucks as well but they do that so who knows.
Get a team of oxen and pull something, but don't count on the riding working out. There is a reason you don't see it happening outside of a rodeo.
If you do this thing, post how it works out please.
If you dont already have horses get yourself a thoroughbred or pony - better still get one from a rescue as I'm sure there's plenty on death row - our horses enjoy a hack or a full tilt gallop but COWS and STEERS
Answer to your question yes there is bound to be someone out there waiting to sell you a cow saddle
I think if you spend enough time with a animal you can get them to do just about anything. I mean they train lions, and tigers to jump through hoops and they almost never eat their trainers! I would think the eating part would be hard to train out of them... lol Good luck in your adventure and keep us posted along the way.
Just curious what caused you to wake up one morning and say.... I want to ride a cow???
Hi i thought about that 2 ... i think i might just use a sattle pad..... that would be awesome if we could train the cows..look on youtube they show many cow riding vidoes
