Doe and a wether

Is there an issue of keeping a wether and a doe in the same yard/barn? We are thinking of getting 2 Nigerian Dwarfs babies and are contemplating this combination. We want a female for milk, but 2 would just be too much. I know we could just not breed one. Or we could rotate I guess for for year round milk. But honestly, the females are so darned expensive-I am seeing them for about $400 here. I don't think we could afford to buy two at the same time right now. Wethers are around $125. Opinions?

I don't think it would be a problem to keep a wether and a doe together. Yet I have never had boy goats, only does.

My first was a wether. I had him wethered 3 weeks after I got him. Then I got does. He is just fine with my couple of does. So if you can't get 2 does then get one of each. They keep eachother company.

How far away have you looked? That is an expensive price for my area. $400 would be showlines here and that would still be on the expensive side. I have seen showlines go for $250-300 here.

We see good does in Oregon and washington for about $200.00 and less all the time. Might be worthwhile to consider a short road trip.

I have a wether with 3 does. Don't have any problems other than petting time and that's b/c they are spoiled. Neither of them want us petting another one....lol

Wethers make excellent companion friends for both does and bucks. They also make wonderful friends for their people! Give a wether a great home with your doe; they'll both be happy.

A wether can be a great companion for a doe or buck. Just be aware that when your doe is in milk that their nutritional needs will be vastly different- so you'll have to separate them for feeding. But if you ever add another doe and a buck in the future your wether can keep your buck company.
