I know most of you are going to ask "so what is the problem?" :)

I have an almost 12 week old Kiko/Spanish bottle baby who has lost her voice. No coughing, temp is 103.5, no diarrhea (bottom is spotlessly clean). She is running around and playing with all the others, even ran up and hopped in my car when I got home yesterday. No sign of illness or injury.

When she opens her mouth to bleat it comes out as a squeak or a raspy cough sound. It sounds a little like a cat when she squeaks. She has been like this for 3 days. She was not overly vocal in the days before. I did cut her down to one bottle a day last week.

Is something wrong?

One of my bucklings did the same thing when I separated them from thir mom. But he was very vocal before he lost his voice. He was not a happy camper. It only lasted a few days. Maybe she was blatting while you were at work? Maybe when she missed her routine bottle? Mine are weaned now, but they start calling me about 30 minutes before I'm scheduled to feed them. If I'm not there on time, they really yell.

I'd guess she's been yelling and you haven't heard her. If her lungs sound healthy I wouldn't be too concerned. :)

Our herdsire doesn't really have a voice.. He opens his mouth to scream like the rest and gets the 'mmm' part out, then just goes almost silent.. It's almost like a hiss after that.

My wife thinks it's a cute voice..

Me? I was really hoping he'd pass it on to his progeny, since he's a Nubian. I mean, can you even imagine how much money I could have charged for QUIET NUBIANS?!?! They'd have been outrageously expensive.

:gig

But alas...it wasn't to be. His young'ens scream bloody murder, just like their mamas.

:/
