I goat a baby goat today and I have been trying all day to get her to suck a bottle, and she just refuses! She isn't a newborn probably about 20-25lbs, she does keep nibbling on the hay I'd put sown for bedding. Help please

what kind of goat?

The reason I ask is a 25 lb Nigerian doesn't need a bottle.

How old is this baby? If she is 6 weeks or more, she might be partly weaned and do OK without a bottle if you can't get her to take one.....

If she was dam raised she wont take a bottle, You will need to grain her and give her alfalfal hay. It can be frustrating. Even a 3 or4 month old kid that was on mom may or may not ever take a bottle,

How old a boer kid?

let him get good and hungry, try and then wait at least 3 hours in between trying a gain
heat milk to 104
use a pritchard nipple from feed store, although I did get a 3 week old to take a nipple that looked more like a lamb nipple
sit in a chair or on a hay bale
shove kid under your legs and pin them there,
hold bottle in one hand and with the other hand hold top of kids head, and slip the bottle into their mouth, Don't squeeze too much milk in, but you can squeeze a little bit for a second then let up and then squeeze again every 2 or 3 seconds to get a little milk to flow into mouth, It will scare them if you choke them.
keep hand over the head like a cover and try to keep their head up under your legs like your legs and your hand are mom's stomach, Dam raised kids are used to a cover over their head when they go under to nurse.

before giving bottle take one hand and tickle and bump on the bottom of the kid, on the back above tail head. Mom does this.

keep trying if he is under 5 weeks old, for sure. More than 6 weeks you can just creep feed and feed alfalfa hay.

I am a very new goat owner but as a precausion from all that I am reading I would also give him a dose of Probiotics to help is rumien along. I am about to do this with my 4 day old babies since they are already nibbling around. Let me know what any of you experts think please.
