Thnak you for answering my questions.
I'm feeling oddly uncomfortable about this, but...uhhh, you're welcome?

Do you see poop on the ground in their pen? I would think you would see that, even if you don't catch them in the act?

Two goats of the same age taking different amounts of milk is probably ok. As long as they are healthy, not losing weight, growing, and playing actively.

My togg buckling was 3 1/2 wks when I got him. He had never seen a bottle. He latched right on. He didn't poop the first day at all and I was concerned. But he was a berry machine by day 2. I fed him goats milk that I had frozen the summer before.

Are their bottoms clean? Not crusty at all?

I wonder if dark karo syrup in the milk would help like it does for humans? Just a thought...

G,

Bear and Sable began nibbling on hay at 2 weeks. Cookie has already tasted some but hasn't eaten a lot yet. If these Alpines have been with mom, they should have learned to at least taste it from her.

Milk poop is yellowish and much smaller than big goat droppings. Bear and Sable (my LaManchas) have only recently begun having rabbit pellets.

BTW,

Cookie's current owner (K) just registered on this site under the name of Saaga-Togg, you may want to PM her

I guess I am over protective. I guess I didn't realize the size of the pellets. I found a bunch tonight in hte straw. I still have one that drinks like a pig from the bottle and one that barely drinks at all. She will latch on to the nipple and drink but loses interest. She gets down and feeds on hay. I will continue to monitor but I think everything is okay. I will relax now.

Are you warming the milk to a little over 100 degrees F? What kind of nipple and bottle are you using?

I have tried the black slip soda bottle nipples, and the Lamb Teat nipple. Tonight I am going to try a regular baby nipple but put 1/2 tsp white corn syrup in the milk. Anyone had success with that?

The milk is being warmed to 100 degrees.
