I can make a meal of home style potatoes. Slice potatoes, put in skillet, with lid. Cook on low until done. Take off lid, turn up heat, add a little oil and brown them. Cover with cheese, put lid back on to hold heat and melt cheese. I like a splash of soy sauce on mine.

Chilly morning. Recording thermometer says 37 but there was a hard frost on the car windshield. This thermometer is protected under the porch roof so it didn't get down as far as it was out in the yard... It is sunny and warming fast. Temps are supposed to go down again tonight, then a warming trend with temps back into the mid 70's... No moisture in the forecast until Halloween... Not good.

DS cut the rest of the sorghum yesterday so that will be ready to rake Tues or Wed to finish drying. Looks like lots of time for it to dry.

Clothes to finish washing and hang out. Farmers to call and get scheduled. Need to make some eggs for breakfast too... chickens to let out. Maybe see about running the walk behind weed eater to start knocking all the high grass down now that things are pretty much stop growing.

What about wrapping your porch in a heavy plastic? It wouldn’t be clear, but opaque, enough to let light in. Use the 1-by’s to hold it down. I’ve lived in old houses where I stretched plastic on the inside of windows to hold in the heat.
Too much wind here to tear the plastic if I tried to use it on the porch. There is nothing from the header to the concrete to anchor it to, but the decorative looking metal supports with intricate iron that looks like twining leaves... great way to tear anything that might rub against it too... There was enough wind damage done with the 1/2 greenhouse that was anchored on the deck against the house.. yet the wind took it apart... It is going to have to be a rigid form of "covering" so it will last. The porch is about 8x 30 or something, across most of the front of the house. Thought about maybe just doing half of it; to offset the wind from the south.

Actually would like to have it closed in like a sunroom.... I would never sit out there in the open to watch the cars go flying down the road... a "sunroom" or closed in entry so that there was a place to have protected from the weather, I don't know.. it is just not that practical the way it is..... There is no entry/mudroom type way to come in the house... you come right in the front door to the hallway and stairs up to the 2nd floor with doors to all the rest of the rooms... and kitchen door comes right into the kitchen... Actually the deck is the better place to close in and make an entry and sunroom... but it is the opposite side of the house from the driveway and carport... so a pita to carry any/everything all the way around the front porch to go in and out that door...

Is there a roof over the deck? Maybe that would make your plant room!
Don't I wish... nope, no roof over the deck... But I am looking at it and thinking about a plant room/sunroom type thing... Could do it with 2 sections for a mud room entrance and then through a door into the plant room... not convenient to the driveway especially but still would be dual purpose... Need to talk to a carpenter that does renovations.... bounce some ideas off someone that knows things about building... had considered it when I first moved here...

It turned out to be a nice day out. One load of laundry hung, another in machine soaking, to be hung out tomorrow. It warmed up to 69 and the breeze died down so comfortably nice but it sure cooled off quick at dark. Locked in the chickens then went down to get DS and bring up to his truck across the road... he had the tractor and discbine there... mowed hay at one of the lots in the subdivision and went down to mow the OG at dennis's place... left it there and will go mow a couple more places and that should be done... I sure hope so... but this late grass... 3rd cutting... is pretty nice. Not alot, but will make good sq bales...
I will rake some on Wed, then more on Thurs and probably Friday and Sat... I have to test Wed aft and Thurs aft... and drop off bottles at the owner sampler farm that finally got back to me... will do that Wed... not making a separate trip up there since I will be going right by the exit on the way to the wed farm....
Cleaned up some planter boxes and dumped the soil out around the lilac bush... have to get some gloves and get the poison ivy pulled out from there since it creeps onto the deck/porch.
Some of the 1/2 greenhouse is torn that I didn't see before..... grrrr.... got to make a decision on that.
Cover for the big greenhouse/shelter should be here within a week... finally ordered it so the chickens will have some cover/protection for the winter...keep hearing how we are going to have a cold snowy winter this year...

Took a steak out of freezer and put it in the fridge, and then when I remembered it, there wasn't enough time to thaw it... so will eat a big bowl of green beans and have some cottage cheese left so will finish that. Steak tomorrow night...

Funny thing is that the frost was glittering on the car this morning, but it did not do anything to the pepper plants in the garden.... or the irises... and tonight is not supposed to get quite so cold... patchy frost... then warming trend...
No moisture in the forecast until maybe halloween....
Heard on the radio , the ag report, and we are over 10 inches short of rain/precip for the year already.. up to 12 inches short in the counties north of us.... we are into moderate drought... the .6 inch we got last friday has helped... but it is not enough.
My well is low I think as the water pressure seems less.. being careful with the clothes washing too... spacing things.
Convection oven dinged... green beans are done... I'm going to eat while they are hot.

Not as cold last night... it moved to @Mini Horses side of the state. We were 43, and it is warming. Sun out across the road... coming around. Soon the leaves will be off the trees and then will hit here earlier..

Clothes washing, soon to get hung out. Then will put another load in to soak... the white socks and such...

Ate a bowl of cereal, heading out to let chickens out. Got an email about the greenhouse cover; I had ordered it online....to call the company. Not a good start to the morning. Will try again, phone was busy...

Got to get meters and hoses in car for farm Wed eve. Bottles in racks, for the owner sampler farm to drop off and the one I am going to, plus the farm for Thursday eve. Not really wanting to go test after nearly 2 weeks off... oh well, get through this fall/winter....

Going to get dishes caught up and then go hang clothes. Looks to be a pretty day.
