Agree on the younger generations not wanting something that will last for years.... But last I knew Ethan Allen did not go out of business. They got away from the "colonial" type furniture they used to specialize in... went more "modern and contemporary" in design.... and the company went private and no longer on the open market/stock exchange... but it is now 90 years or so since the original 2 men started the company that evolved into "Ethan Allen Furniture" company.....
My ex worked there in the early 70's..... in Conn. before I moved south....

I looked them up. You se right. They are not out of business. I remember them closing stores in Houston many years ago. There is only 1 now with 2 others in the surrounding area. I guess they regrouped and got better locations.

Wonder where their furniture is made now.

Sadly, cheaper Chinese furniture imports took over American markets and one by one, American companies folded and went out of business. Young people are not impressed with antiques or furniture you can keep for years or even generations. Most want cheap crap they can get tired of, toss it and get something else.

Ethan Allen was one of the casualties.
Gotta do it...gotta post this...

If you know about furniture you can find good, solid stuff in thrift stores. Strip and refinish and you will have a quality piece for another generation. I found a solid wood Sheraton china closet and refinished it for my eldest daughter. I also did a beautiful quarter sawn buffet for DS3 and DDIL1. Got those pieces cheap at the thrift store on half price day! The solid maple furniture (bunkbed that makes into twin beds, double dresser and drop front desk that were my sister's and mine over 65 years ago have gone through us, our 2 much younger brothers, my niece, my 3 boys, (I refinished the pieces at that point) my grandsons, and are waiting to be passed on to my youngest grandsons. Quality furniture is worth refinishing. I also have my grandfather's dresser and highboy, and my grandparent's dining room set. It is quarter sawn oak and my great grandfather (a German master cabinet maker) made the matching china cabinet and buffet. I have some of my great grandfather's wood working tools too. He made everything by hand - no power tools back then. Good wood furniture asts if kept out of the wet and taken care of.

Good Morning and Happy New Year... except it is WINDY and CHILLY as all get out, out there...

38 to start... Very cloudy, some sun peeking through, but supposed to be more sunny as the day goes on. We'll see if it is decent enough to work outside at all later. Need to go and check on the tarp covering the mower in the back of the carport... had a couple of bungee straps on it but the way it was blowing.... who knows.
Might as well go take a chicken out of the freezer when I am out....

Had a nice evening with the friends, came home before the ball dropped so no traffic on the roads... safe inside long before the other nuts were on the road.

Hoping for a good year... we will see how things shake out once our newly elected President gets sworn in...

Praying for good health, happiness, and peace for all in 2025...

About same here, very windy but sunny & a touch warmer. About 9:30-11:30 last night I had lot of wind & burst of rain. Maybe 1/3". Winds helping to dry off but can't do much out there while just "hanging on" 😁

So many days at home that I'm getting anxious that I'm "forgetting" something  hard adjustment.

Wed eve. It has been a cold one with the wind all day... Got up to 46, but never felt like it was over freezing. Did not work on the poultry pen in the wind...
Bantam NH cockerel got out of little pen and I could not catch him so I quit chasing him and went to do the cow etc. It was nearly dark when I got back from dropping the meters and all... lo and behold, he had gone back in the small crate part on his own... YAY:celebrate:clap:bow:bow:bow.... so I will start letting him out some while I am around late afternoon....

Got a farm scheduled for tomorrow afternoon... took and dropped off the meters this evening for them to set up in the morning, after feeding the cow and calves, putting them in and giving 'em hay in the bunk for tonight. I may put the coats back on them if it gets as cold as forecast... just to help hold their body heat.

Had a call from another farm, that usually calls me when it is their weekend to milk, and got them set up for Saturday morning.. No set up, they have weigh jars, and don't start 'til 5 so not too bad... Sent a text to another to see if they want Friday aft....
DS has Dr appt on Monday so another fairly early, leave at 6, trip. We have to take the truck since we have to pick up a ton of feed that is prepaid... it was $2. a bag off special or something like that... so paid for pallet of it to pick up our next trip down there... Possible "weather" on Monday also... then the BIG FREEZE is supposed to settle down on us...

Delay on the heater/stove... maybe will be here Sat 4th...:idunno:th:th. Kinda not surprised with the holidays and all that....I would sure like to get it set up and hooked up before it gets toooooo cold.....you have to put the legs on it..... another reason to get the rest of the stuff sorted and cleaned up in the LR .... everything is there from other one that won't stay lit... I am hoping all I have to do is unscrew the line from this old one, and screw it into the other one... we'll see...it has the cut off valve and all on the line when this one was put into the house... when I moved in I had them check it and they ran a new line to the heater as well as to the stove in the kitchen so it is all new 2 years ago.... So, that's all good to go. Just need to find the blower without going back to the stove/fireplace store. TSC does not have the blower for sale as an accessory... have a website to go to and see if I can get it that way. Just have not gotten that far yet. It probably would be better to get it attached to stove before I put it in...and need to get a "mat" for it....

Need to get back on a routine with the chiropractor since this cold thing is pretty much gone... got alot of pain down my right leg so probably got a nerve somewhat pinched....
And I have to call "my boss" and see if I can get this other farm set up again.... not looking forward to any of this phone calling tomorrow...

Done for the night...

What exactly are these farm visits for?
