If he takes permanent disability, he cannot farm... talked to disability lawyer and another friend/lawyer... so by being "retired" he can do things.... and still dealing with the workman's comp stuff...
If you get permanent disability, through the state system... they basically want you to just become a vegetable and do nothing until you die...
Is disability safe from what's going on in the Fed govt right now? Figuring out how to farm or "help" you farm might be safest with what's trickling through the grapevine of fed workers we're friends with. Very scary, offensive things have been recently said about eliminating a "parasite class" among other things...and the president does not appear inclined to slow things down or consider the ramifications of actions. If I took disability I'd seriously worry about it being cut off suddenly in the next few weeks to months and having to go back to work or farming. It's a scary time to rely on govt anything right now.

I dont think disability would be cut. Sounds like the president is more interested in cleaning out those unnecessary workers who no longer even come in to the office. And particularly USAID. Many of their "aid" expenditures are a pure waste of our money and some of whose programs should be prosecuted for cruelty to animals.

The long term disability is through the state .... I don't know about any federal/ss/ or any other disability programs. When he went from the short term disability, that ran out, he had to make decisions. Long term has restrictions and there are plenty of nosy people that would turn him in... so he decided to "retire"... and he can come out of it to go back to work without any problems or restrictions... and if he works for some other job that is part of the state retirement situation, he can just continue to add more time/years to his retirement... it's complicated... basically he is taking the winter off of working and so just says he is retired. There are lots of people that "retire" from one job and then they take another... Of course, right now, I don't know what is going on because she is now the one "in the loop" again.. she has started going to his dr appts again, all of a sudden. I'm not needed again.... except when he has no one else to do something.... So, when anyone asks, I simply say he is retired and leave it at that.

Well, that's good. I hope DC leaves the states alone.

That's not what's happening in DC. Nobody's working from home. This last week they fired everyone with any kind of write up on file going back X number of years whether necessary or not. New hires within the last (I want to say 3 years?) are being terminated for no reason. I think they went first. Federal workers with any kind of accommodations like maternity leave or any kind of disability accommodations are being terminated in the next few weeks. The employees I'm in connection with are starting to express concern about SS, Veterans benefits, Medicaid and Medicare, and programs for families and children being cut. They don't talk about the president much, but what has been coming out, he may or may not be in some kind of decline and can't even go to meetings without M with him and M has been making all the decisions and has recently been making comments about eliminating the "parasite class" in reference to anyone who's had any kind of benefits drawn from the govt and I've had the opportunity to learn that if enough unrelated DC Federal workers express concern about something it's probably going to happen in the next week or so. They know accurately before the news does and they're very worried because the scaffolding that's in place to help make up for a president's incompetence or learning curve (in addition to other functional stuff) are being removed. Scary stuff. I'm not a left or right leaner but the equation and what it adds up to is not great right now.

Things have to be cleaned up, there's no doubt about that. Back in the 70s and 80s there were "jokes" about $20,000 toilets. YES, there were. And sadly it was true, and got worse. Yup cutting the then $20K toilet (given inflation prob $100-200K toilet now) effects everyone who made that toilet - down to the guy who "mined" the clay to make it. This country can not keep bleeding out $$$$$ to any special interest group. Blame the group that creates the special interest, blame the lobbyists that push things through.
Here in CA we have a bullet train to nowhere - billions $$$ as well as land taken in imminent domain. There's no train and one was never needed. So the states need to be cleaned up as well.
The piggy bank is cracked and empty.

@rachels.haven ... please keep us posted on the "rumors" going around and what is happening... it is not what I was expecting to hear... cutting waste yes... and even some shutting down of stupid stuff... BUT......

Pouring down rain since about 11... Really rained hard while up at the nurse cow barn.
Black cow is out... done with her BS... she went round and round this morning, barely would stand long enough for the calf to suck a few times... it finally looked like he had gotten her milked out. She also was shoving the other 4 calves around... taking her head and ramming them out of her way and just being a total b@%#h... Then when Betsy was standing in the same spot since she went to eating grain, the other witch started head butting her and finally making her to move... only to go after her again when she went to another spot. Tried slamming the little calf with her head a couple times and I just said... that's it. I'm done. She got to acting totally stupid, and I shut the gate between the 2 "stall areas"... and went out around and opened the big gate where we load out...swung it "in" to the lot at the barn door, and when she started in I got her attention and she saw an "out" to the pasture and she went out. Hope that she gets too close to the electric fence and gets fried a little... She is done. I will put the calf on a bottle... I will buy him from DS and he will be mine... I'm done with her, and I also do not want any more of the joint deals... The calf deserves better than this mean dispositioned witch. When DS finally gets up there with the trailer, to get the bull out, I will try to make sure I have her in the pen too and she can leave.
This will give the jersey and the calves a chance to have peace and quiet and be in the barn out of the rain... I left her in with the calves... and put a bale and a couple extra sections of hay in the bunks for them. I will not be going back up there since I have to go to work in a bit... Tomorrow morning he will get back on a bottle... I have seen him steal off the jersey some, so think he will do okay for the night. At least she does not beat him, or any of the calves up.

Have a headache again... maybe from being so totally p.o.ed at that cow.

I emptied the rain gauge last evening of the snow and rain total accumulation so will be able to get a good measurement of what we get with this rain. Between the snow that melted in the gauge, and the freezing rain/drizzle we had there was 1.5 inches. Since the rule of thumb is 12 inches of snow = 1 inch of rain... between the 2 we had a significant amount.

Got the brackets on the meters changed for testing this afternoon. Forgot about it yesterday. Hoses are all in the car so ready to go. Sample bottles are in rack from the farms that cancelled from the snow. Figured I would do brackets while I was still a little wet... then come in and get dried off and warmed up. Just ate a sliced ham sandwich from the ham I cooked the other day... took some stuff for the headache because I am not going to try to just ride it out today. I need it down to as dull as I can get it, with having to work and drive this afternoon/eve...

Going in to do some dishes and get ready to leave.

There are a lot of rumors. The free lunch is being shut down and there's going to be noise.

For those claiming that the POTUS is in decline, I've not seen it in his public appearances...and where were those claiming decline during the last four years?

@farmerjan , I think the most active accessible place for inside updates is the "Alt National Park's Service" page on FB. It tends to be what's right on with what happens next and what I hear directly from people and it's also one of the pages the federal employees are using to communicate on protest dates and times. (But they ask people to be careful of commenting so it's best not to say a thing there). "Rouge Nasa" and "Alt CDC and FDA 2025" are less active and more on topic. It's looking more and more like we're in for a hard time.

The normal, reliable media has been sort of censured/banned here, so if you want to know what's actually happening as it happens and before the dust clears...this is what we're down to. I think Fox news almost got banned yesterday if that's any indicator of how things are going.
