I feed my horses alfalfa and I'm looking to get a llama to add to the herd mostly for predator alerting/protection. Is it okay feed them a portion in alfalfa? I'm fine with buying special hay but I'm sure they will get into the horses food as well. I have heard a lot of "bad stuff" about feeding them alfalfa and I just want to make sure I'm a good owner.You can feed alfalfa hay but they will get very fat on it plus it causes fiber to get course from all the protein and it wouldn't be as nice to use. I would suggest a good grass hay. Also, there is a llama feed so I would feed the llamas the llama specific feed. You do have to be careful of copper.
