Feeling Overwhelmed!

It seems like lately it is always something. One doe has a big gash in her side. I've been treating for weeks now and finally seems to be healing up. I think it was self inflicted because I isolated her and it got bigger. Ended up having to wrap her up to where it looks like she is wearing a shirt to keep her from tearing off the bandages and reopening the wound. My newest doe has a never ending list of problems, worms, hoof issues, neck cyst(possible CL), anemia, some wierd butt sores????, scurs.... another doe is such a B to everyone else and has even reared up on me more than once. Another doe has a big injection site cyst. But the boys? They are great! Do you ever feel overwhelmed by issues with your herd?

They can be overwhelming at times. Just keep at it, you will learn and grow and figure things out. Then they will come up with new ways to torture you.

A few years ago I had 3 goat emergencies in the same night. 3 sick goats, and not the same illnesses. My wether had UC and we put him down the next day, a kid had entero, and another ended up with mycoplasma. All on the same night. At that point I would have GIVEN them away.

Totally been there!!

Been fighting CL in my small herd since taking in a charity case bottle baby. Five adults have it, and the two yearlings were vax'ed at 12 weeks and have had none pop up.

Initially I flipped my lid, thought I was a horrible person and goat owner. I euthanized one because his lumps were so massive. Now, though, I kinda regret it. He did seem to not be in the best health...runty, had infections here and there, fathered one kid who died at birth...so he was not a good herd addition either way.

Now after dealing with it for a year, I think it's just a mild PITA. They are still the happy, needy, hungry goats they were before they got it. I'm not adding any new goats now because of it, just because I don't want to risk infecting any others no matter what. But all in all, I realize now that it's not the "OMG KILL THEM ALL!" disease I read it to be online. I still drink milk raw and do meticulous udder checks to ensure that no lumps are hiding out in there.

I have definitely gone through this. wounds, worms, & the willies (I think something's going on but I don't know for sure).
right now, my biggest problem is working out the balance of feed. they're costing me money right now & not being productive for me - I need to turn this around.

get yourself some granulex spray for that large gash and maybe even the butt sores... It has worked amazing on my does that were viciously attacked by dogs (literal holes and deep wounds).. quickly aids in healing and ridding the necrotic tissue!!! Look online.. varying prices but cheapest I found was Countryside Pet Supply.. quick shipping too.. was here in two days! Get a couple cans and have on hand as it is only a 4 oz aerosol and goes quick!!! Good luck.. I never thought I would pull through my dog attack but my goats actually kept me on track.. they continued to fight so did I. Tending horrific wounds on 5 at the same time while mourning the loss of 3 beloved goats is very overwhelming! Deep breaths and positive mantras will help!

I have my share of goat emergency in the last two years of owning goats. After them I just take a deep breath and think one more step to becoming a goat expert. just think the experience you gained this year your will keep forever. hang in there.

Hang in there. It happens a lot with multiple critters. I wish I could tell you it gets better, but that would be lying. What happens is that you have spates of bad problems and then don't have them for a while. You get used to the problems and deal with them better. .
