My 11 yr old son's Toggs are kidding. He has 6, 3 day old kids.

Yesterday, I noticed that his only buckling's ear was flopped down. First thing I thought of was puppies and how they sometimes chew on each other and can cause nerve damage so uppie ears flop down.

At closer inspection, I found a bit of blood at the base of his ear. Looks like *someone* chomped him. :( Can anything be done to fix it? My son was really hoping to sell this buckling. It's either fix it, or sell him as a weather. *sniff*

Thoughts?

Is his ear actually broken? Is it something you could 'tape' back into place so the cartilage heals?

I would try to tape in back into place...I would also put some blu kote on the wound.

I had one that would chomp on ears too..she was just terrible..but when they were that young she would suckle it...it was crazy!

Goats are nuts sometimes!!!!!

I've had kids that were born with floppy ears and taped them. I used painter's tape as it is easier to get off, yet sticks pretty good. The ears straightened out in about a week.

I had couple kids whose ears flopped at a few days old. A week or two went by and the ears perked back up again :hu. So it might perk itself back up. If you think somethig is broken on it I would try and tape it, does it feel the same as the other ear? If it flopped from the result of an injury I don't see why you couldn't sell him as a breeder still, you just couldn't show him.

It is more probable that it got stepped on accidently by mama.

Use some vet wrap and tape it up until it heals, kinda of like how vets wrap the ears of dogs that have had their ears cut.

Sorry for the delayed thank yous. I guess I forgot to subscribe to this post. lol

The buckling's ear looks better even with out anything being done to it. :) Still, I'll go out today and access it. I'll tape it if it is "off" any. Thank you, all, for your great responses. :)
