I am not sure where to post this, so I came to the everything else goats. I have some fly spray that is for horses. I use this on my outside dogs as flys seem to be a huge issue here. Can I use this same fly spray on the goats?

And do you have any other suggestions of what can be used to get the fly population down a little? We have clean stalls, we clean the pens, removing manure...so what else is there to do?

Thank you.

AH the bane of my existance also.

I have gotten some Cylence which is a animal and premises spray. In otherwords you can spray the animal and spray the premises too.

A lot of people use Python Dust, which is good for mites and lice, but I don't know if it works on flies.

DH built a flytrap using a barrel with a clear plexiglas square in the top, he then placed 2 inch pvc pipes out the sides, put a rod on the insides he placed a ice creme carton full of cow liver which really stinks and the flies crawl in and can't get out. It's going been out 2 days and the flies are going in it that's for sure.

Here in Oklahoma this is "fly time" and the flies are really bad. They bother the horses more than the goats. We are putting the Cylence on the horses pretty often, like once a week.

They are pretty bad here once it warms up..today they were mild..but there..but we had another drop in heat. I noticed last week when it was warm that they were on the dogs and the goats. I anticipate that as it gets hotter they will be all over the goats too. I was in the pen for a while today. So I was able to kill a few. lol But those were trying to bit me. So I will look at the active ingredients in the horse spray and spray around.

DonnaBelle...any chance you could share a pic of your DHs fly trap? I would love a poison free alternative.

Haven't got it yet, but have ordered some of the fly predators, hoping that it works as advertised. Would like to hear from anyone who has used this, but also would like to see a pic of the fly trap. Have seen the one made from soda bottles online, with recipes for bait depending on which insect you are trying to attract, going to try that as well.

We have a fly trap and we sprinkle DE where they might be laying eggs. Our neighbor has been using fly predators for years and says they are amazing.

I've used fly predators for 3 seasons now. I hardly see a fly. Check arbico or Spalding. Arbico is cheaper and a wonderful company. It costs me about 16$ a month. I have about 20 sheep 5 dogs and 10 chickens. Maybe seen 10 flies all season.
Fly spray is more expensive and doesn't work nearly as well.
