Are ANY of us happy with the weather?
Maybe @SageHill , she doesn’t have snow, but it is kinda on fire there. Hey! Let’s send her OUR snow and smother out all those bad fires! 😃
🤣 I’d take the snow, as long as it melts fast.
It’s the winter of fire and ice for all of us!

I was awake at 2am, back to bed until 5. Snow had stopped, so I got dressed while coffee brewed.

Final snow total is just shy of 4 inches.

It's light and fluffy. And cold.

I choose to clear the driveway of as much snow as possible. Yes, bare pavement can be icy, but uneven snow can be, too, and doesn't melt as quickly once the sun shines. I don't have sand, but I have cat litter I can toss on icy spots as needed.

Like my little snow shovel? I bought it on a winter trip to Connecticut about 9 years ago. You couldn't find one like it in the Carolinas for any amount of money.

I always clear the steps first so I don't get hard chunks of compacted snow stuck to the treads.

And off to thaw the waterers.

Hoop coop is looking good!

It's quiet in the coop, just a little tentative twittering...

"What the...?!?"

They've never seen snow before.

Very little snow in the hoop coop!

Northern exposure ⬆️

Southeastern exposure ⬆️

I'll check on them a little later when it's fully daylight and re-thaw their waterers.

FYI: the roads don't get plowed here in eastern NC, so those of us who can drive in snow...don't. We stay home, and give first dibs to the maniacs who think an SUV or pickup truck makes them Robert Peary!

Yes you're reading that right...it was TEN DEGREES this morning.

Ice in the water tub was an inch thick about 7am.
:ep

But everyone seemed to have weathered the cold.

After work I checked on the flock, and found two eggs. One was on the ground just inside the door, and pointed on one end!

Weird.

We always dumped the water at night... no frozen buckets or chicken waterers to deal with... no we don't dump the big tubs... but anything 5 gal or less got dumped or carried in to not freeze. It does not hurt them to not have water overnight... which they usually don't drink and it freezes anyway... Plus we carried out what they would drink in a couple hours and watered twice a day... once they satisfy their thirst, leaving water out for long periods of time in the winter is a waste...
