Since this is to be a permanent coop, unlike my piece of crap coop, you might consider using tin to cover the top. Yes, you would have to go buy it, yes you would have to buy 1x4’s to put on the inside and screw the tin to. It would take you on the outside and probably your son on the inside. But it would be permanent and much better than a tarp.
For HC#1, that's the eventual plan.

I have a bundle of 1x2s (I think that's the size) bought a couple years ago to attach the tarp, but never used them. They're up in the shed eaves, dry and supported.

The metal shed wall isn't going to work.

It's 5'x8', I could maybe use it as part of a roof.

The metal shed has two more full walls, and a partial wall with doors, need to see what condition they are in.

And there's still the old shed's tin overhang to wirebrush and disassemble.

I needed to move that piece of plywood that I found in the shed. It's heavy! I didn't measure the width but I think it's 5/8". I really don't want to use it unless there's no other choice, it's a nice piece.

I'm ready to bite the bullet and buy a T11 panel for the back wall, but how to get it home?

Cross-posting to the Little Hoop Coop thread...

Ice Storm Cometh...

Home from work tomorrow, and probably Thursday as well. I have my work laptop and permission to do some tasks remotely.

This afternoon I filled up both 5 gallon bucket feeders with crumbles, halfway actually. I topped off the big rubber tub waterer, and added another smaller rubber tub waterer. They're both on the south side of the hoop coop, where the sun hits during the winter. If it is iced over and I can't make it to the coop it's the best option for the flock's needs.

Tomorrow morning I will add a little more straw to the hoop coop, maybe sacrifice another collard plant and place it in the run for the chickens' enjoyment. And I will top off the bird feeders. And check the cat shelters on the front porch, replace the straw with fresh if needed. I can feed the "ferals" on the porch when the weather is bad, just open the door!

And I finally brought this into the house, jic. I got it on sale over a year ago, impulse buy, but justified it as "an investment". ;) I hope it doesn't get bad enough to use, but it's nice to know that I have it.

How tall is the coop and how wide?

I’m thinking have them cut it in half, will that fit in car or trunk with trunk top tied down?

Make frame on back to screw T1-11 to. Put up bottom piece. Put up top piece, lapped a little over bottom piece.

Put up top piece, will need son’s help. Draw curve of hoop with marker, use jig saw to cut to fit hoop. Then put it up and screw in place. Caulk bottom seam. May have to cut wedges to close gap on side.

Great idea!
Sounds like the voice of experience?

I was considering having it cut in half, was thinking it would ruin the sheet. Thank you for this!

Coop is 8' wide, approximately 6' tall, maybe 6'2".

ETA: And I have a dozen 1x2 on hand that I bought to secure the tarp, but never used them.

I could make the frame with those, maybe even assemble it before raising.

I have a Toyota Highlander SUV. I measured the cargo width by the hatch. It's roughly 40".

If I get the 1/3" width T11 maybe it could go in diagonal, bend just a little? For a two mile drive?
