Ummm… I don’t think it will bend. A hatch back? Does the back seat fold forward? That would give you more room. Or just tie the hatch back down.

Coop is 8’ wide. Height is 6’ 2”. It’s going to take 2 sheets

You need the 8’ for the width of the coop. Sideways, a sheet is 4’ tall. Coop 6-ish feet tall.

Width of cargo area is 40”, sheet is 48” wide. Can you fold seat down to accommodate the 8’ or at least most of it and tie the end gate down?

Have full sheet cut in half length wise, that should be 2’ x 8’ strips. Top sheet laps over the bottom sheet, so lose a little height. Coop is 6’2” tall. Second sheet needs to be cut lengthwise, but not in half or it won’t reach to top of coop. You need to figure measurements for overlapping the middle sheet and reaching top of the coop, that’s the measurement for ripping the second full sheet not in half!
Now, is that clear as mud? 😃😃😃

I was lying awake last night, thinking about possible solutions. There is a roof rack on the Highlander, but would straps (not bungees!) be enough to secure a couple 4x8 sheets for a two mile drive?

I would tie them on top with a blanket on top of the roof to hopefully prevent scratches. But truthfully, any vehicle that belongs to me is going to get a certain amount of abuse, no matter how much I try to take care of it.

Do you know how to make a tight tie down? Before you tie the loose end, make a loop in the rope. Pass loose end through the railing, back up to the loop. Pass loose end through the loop and pull tight. Tie off at the loop. The loop gives you leverage.

Like a slip knot?

I want to keep my SUV as nice as I can for as long as I can, but I am still going to use it as needed.

I don’t haul hay in my car. But living on a dirt/mud road proves to be rather fruitless. It’s always dirty.

Once I was in Walmart and it rained so hard I could hear it inside. Rain stopped, I checked out and went to my car. Couldn’t find it. Walked past it 3-4 times before I finally recognized the dealer sticker on the back. The rain washed all the road dust and dirt off.

Shoot, with a roof rack, there is no reason that you can't take 2 sheets full size home... Agree with the blanket on the roof to prevent scratches... couple of light weight ratchet straps or ropes for tie down... 2 miles is nothing unless it is interstate... so go a back road. Drive slow...

I've hauled straw several times, first time I used a tarp. Didn't matter, the straw found its way beyond the tarp. So I just got a simple rubber cargo mat. Groceries go in the back seat area, dirty stuff in cargo. :D =D

I did two miles with 16' boards in my dh's Tundra. THAT was not pleasant.
