young fuzzy lop buck, only about 6 weeks old, got him on saturday.

looks good, coat is nice, eyes are bright and clear, no runny nose, no sneezing, poops are formed and clean (no runs).

brought him home saturday, hes been doing fine, monday we got some seriously heavy rain but he didnt get wet (slightly wet feet from some splash back but not soaked (there in solid bottom cages))
doing find yesterday, eating pellet and hay, no fresh foods yet as a just in case, apple cider vinegar in water. picked him up he put up a bit of a fight before settling,

this morning however he just doesnt sem "right" he just seems "too quiet" i picked him up and he didnt fight me at all
took a good look over, poops are still normal, nothing stuck to him, no runs, eyes nose and ears are perfectly clean, listend to his chest, no rattle or wheezing,
physically he looks perfectly fine and normal...

Hes just "too quiet"

should i treat for cocci as a just in case? what about antibiotics, i hate treating with antibiotics unless i have to, whats a mild rabbit safe broad spectrum?

ive grown very fond of him in a very short time and i not only dont want to loose him, but cant afford to have rabbits ding randomly.
i also picked up 2 holland does same time from the same cage who are hopping round, eating and generally acting normally today...

im at a loss.
thoughts? hes so tiny.

Grrr, ill be so upset if he leaves this world, but i dont know what else to check for...:hu :hit

No ideas here, sorry.

I had one rabbit go like that, an adult male dwarf rabbit. He just got quieter and quieter, and passed away. He never seemed in pain, never skipped a meal until the last day. Him acting too quiet lasted about three days before he died. He was housed with another rabbit, his mate, and she never got sick. Whatever it was, wasn't contageous.

I hope your bunny pulls through.

thanks...hes still with us this morning and i think i might have figured his situation out...MIGHT *fingres crossed*
this morning i figured if hes on his way out might as well try bunny crack (fresh clover) so see if i could entice him to try something to eat...
he showed little interest inthe clover but he whent to town licking the dew off every single leaf...and immediatly seemed to perk up some.
so i whent inside and got him a bowl of water...he has a water bottle wiht fresh water 3 times a day now its getting hot out, but i put that dish in his hutch put him in front of it and for the first time in 2 days he drank! not exsessivly, but he actually drank.

it occured ot me that SOME of the water bottle nipples (the kinds wiht the little balls in) are very easy to operate, simply nudging the little ball makes it work...others however take a little more effort almost as if theres a spring of vacume behind it...
I hadnt even THOUGHT to check because i had seen him at the water bottle "drinking" on sunday and monday...but it didnt even cross my mind that in that 2 day period hed drank very little compared to the other bunnies. ive never had a dwarf bunny this small before (hes about 5 weeks old and will be on the smaller side of the standard) my mini rex were much bigger when i got them and the 2 baby holland does are in a hutch together so i didnt think to compare fluid intake...

i THINK hes been having trouble getting enough water out of the bottle and in trun has pretty much given up on it.
I left his bottle on the cage and put a small ceramic dish filled wiht water under the bottle and pretty much immediatly after taking a drink he seemed to perk up. hoped around, his ears which have been at full lop since he came home are now in 1 up 1 down mode and im taking ear control as a good sign right now, h even washed his face, (havent seen him do that in 3 days.

right now hes back to snoozing in the back corner of the hutch...but he seems a little brighter eyed so im HOPING this was a water issue and that he gets over this stress and makes a full recovery.

*fingers crossed*
because quite frankly...
THIS face is too cute to die

I've had several water bottles format a vaccume where the ball was up in the tube and water was unavailable. I hope that takes care of his problems.

well hes still with us this morning, the vet suggested i give him some mineral oil yesterday just incase it was also a constipation/blockage issue so i did, she also told me to offer him a small amount of grass and clover to try and peek his interest. this morning i once again saw him drinking, he had been in his pellets last night (a few scattered) but cane be sure if he ate, he DID however eat the grass id put in with him last night.
this morning i offered him some clover and he started nibbling away on that too.

im hoping this is a good sign.
unfortunatly the only rabbit vet (my vet) is over 1 1/2 hours away and she made it very clear that if it is a blockage that some mineral oil and plenty of water wnt fix theres not much hope for him as they dont usually survive surgery to remove a blockage. :/ so im hoping things will work out with him.

so. ill
i have a dwarf rex doe. she quit eating and drinking. got pretty thin. winter was coming on, so brought her into the house and started feeding her canned pumpkin(not pie mix, pure pumpkin) for 3 weeks, the only thing she would eat was the pumpkin. started adding pellets under the pumpkin, they would absorb the moisture and get soft, then she would eat them. she has made a full recovery, with one relaspe, and i again, offered the canned pumpkin, and all is still well. she really got friendly, and loves to get pets, but still not fond of being picked up. so my cupboard is full of canned pumpkin, hopefully won't need to use it very often.

im trying but having some nasty ups and downs...
im having NO issues with my rex, standard or mini, stong healthy, no probelms with the kits form them no issues at all.

but this new group...ugh.

Pip...suprisingly is still with us and this mornign i did notice a few small poops in his box, and i caught him nibbling some pellets, im thinking he got himself constipated/backed up and combined with the water bottle issue got himself in a right state. however im not counting my chickens, shes still not realy interested in fresh greens or active/inquisitve.

HOWEVER...
this morning i was suprised and realy upset to find my little tort holland baby girl dying.
yesterday she was running around fine and dandy, she has been in with her littermate a black doe, no issues, plenty of good formed poop, no signs of ilness.
this morning i glanced over and saw her running around...

whent to get goat and rabbit feed from the store, came back and it had been about 1 1/2 hours and there she was lay on her side, TWITCHING and Spasaming, her head Firlmly LOCKED to one side and slightly back.
given she was still twitching i figured it must have JUST happend, i held her for a few mins to see if it was some kind of seizure but she was clearly suffering so i ended it for her.
Im SO upset and so frustrated...
Im kind of mentally prepared each morning to possibly find pip has given up the fight...
but clover...she was perfectly fine all of an hour and a half before hand. the only thing i can think of is a broken neck, but she was in the middle of the hutch, they have no shelves or anything in there she could have jumped off to land funny, and its a 32" x 24" space so its not like its some tiny area she could have easily ran into a wall or something.
her feet and side were wet.

GAH! why are baby rabbits that i havent raised myself so dang fragile?! my babies have been so robust, they eat greens form the moment the start nibbling, they can handle dietary changes, heat, rain ect with no isseus (all the bunnies are sheltered and arnt exposed to direct/driven rain but they get wet feet now and again ect with no issues)

but these new buns...i dunno, just so dang delicate.
i wont be buying any more babies. im going to keep my eye out for a young adult holland doe next month, but im done buying other peoples baby babies...just too many questions.

still keeping my hopes up that Pip is going to continue to improve and that the black holland doe Ash (sister to clover) doesnt have some illness lurking inside her thats going to have me finding her dead tomorrow morning.

Its not as if she showed any symptoms of illness. *pouts*
I work so hard to keep them happy and healthy, its so frustratign when one drops for seemingly no reason.
