Hi, I'm getting 2 whethered kids soon- nubian /boar cross, meduim size (as soon as their old enough to be weaned and whetherd) and i need to put up a pen for them. how big should it be? ( dont want too make it too small) I am thinking 4x 4 woven wire with some hot wire. I have about 300 ft of electric net to give them moveable places to browse when not in their pen. I know i have to give them shelter in the net to get out of the weather... How big do i have to make that? gotta make it movable to get it from place to place. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appereciated!
I probably will have lots of questions in the future!!
Thanks! Gary

We have harsh winter/deep snow and large predators. I have two boer wethers and they are 3 months old now. I have a 10x10 shelter for them and I keep their food and water inside the shelter too. They are lock inside at night because of the predators. It seems sufficient for now but I think I should have made the shelter bigger. When they are full grown and have to spend time inside all day during the winter/rainy days, it would not be big enough. So my suggestions is to build a bigger shelter than you think they'll need. What's your climate like and do you have predators in your area?

We don't have large predators here fox, raccoon, very rarely a coyote. winters you never know about, but usually not too bad.
Thanks for the response! Gary

In that case, you can also go Google 'goat shelter or goat house' images to get some idea on shelter for goats. You just want to make sure they have protection against the weather (rain/wind). A simple three sided structure would work. I would still make it bigger than you think. Apparently goat keeping is VERY addicting. I am already thinking of getting more. If you have room, I guess you can always build another small shelter when you do add to your herd... :)
Good luck.

Thanks again for the replies! I guess from what i'm reading, 100' of fence for their yard would be enough and getting them out to the pasture whenever i can would work.
zoning says i can only have 2 :( so it looks like my 8X8 shed will do. the shed was free and built super strong so thats all good :).

I would make the pen as big as you can, so they have enough room to run around. For the shelter I would have at least 7 square feet per goat so it's not crammed and make sure the shelter is at least 3 sided. Hope this helps! :D

8x8 is good especially when it is free! Post some pictures when you can of your kids. Boer/Nubian cross are cute mixes.
