getting two piglets tonight !!

they are almost six weeks old and eating good already the guy im getting them from is a family friend he has red ones and black and white ones im not sre what breed they are .. but ill find out tonight . anything i should look for ? gunna get two females and pick up a male down the line .. yay !!

Their dad is a registered duroc I think the mom is just a mix breed though .. ? I'll put some pics of my two up tonight as soon as I get them (it got put off a couple days )I picked out two red and white ones .. all the black and whites I liked were boars .. =/

Don't free feed them! Go out each morning & evening & fill up their bowls. Whilst they are eating, talk to them. Over a period of a couple days start to reach out to them VERY slowly. They should start to come around. Start by rubbing their backs & then move down towards their bellies. It takes time & perseverance on your part. NEVER attempt to pick them up as that will scare them at this age. Some pigs are naturally more "wild" than others so it may take a little longer to tame them down, it may not.

NEVER EVER feed them by hand or allow them to nip you. Make the rules/boundaries now. Pigs are smart & what they learn at 8 weeks old they will continue to do. A nip on your pant leg at this age may seem funny but it will not be funny when that pig is 400lbs - it will then hurt & you could be seriously injured!

I would get rid of the dog and other animals that will spook them while you are out there.
Feed them small amounts while you sit out there next to the food. Once they are fine with eating next to you, put out your hand above them and dump some food close to your elbow or body, let them rub against your hand and eventually start petting them. One is bound to be more adventurous than the other.
Both my males like me, but the female STILL rather I not touch her...

I hand feed, now-a-days, things that are easy for them to grab w/o any risk of them getting fingers. But they seem to know the difference between my fingers and food.
