A week ago (1 Feb 2025) a large goanna spooked my guineas, and later at "feed time", I heard them in a very high tree, higher than they have ever "roosted". They came home that night and I penned them, and closed the high trap door, that they and the peafowl also use. The next day I saw the large goanna near the pen, and chased it into the nearest tree.
A few days later, I decided to leave the high trap door open so that the peas and guineas could let themselves out in the morning (we were to be away for the day). When I got home there was no sign of peas, guineas AND my only drake was missing (a sure "sitting duck", poor boy. They were all inside the pen last night, including two chickens, and tonight, only the chickens are home!? Could it be possible that the goanna took the drake in the night, and left no evidence ... there very few feathers? Anyone have a problem with large lizzards?

The only big lizards I have in East Texas are alligators and there’s none close by. They can’t climb up a coop, they stay in water or up on the bank. They are in the rivers and big lakes. Closer to the coast, they are in the marsh.
