Interesting, we had a Pygmy doe come down with Listeriosis several years ago. No goat vet around. Horse vet had no idea what it was. We eventually figured it out and nursed her back to health. She never even aborted -luckily. But no one ever mentioned "too much" sweet feed as the issue. They only said that the feed could have been contaminated. Anyone have the articles or journals on these studies? I'd love to show it to my sources. May help someone else.

The sweet feed is linked with Polio but not Listeriosis. The high sulfur content in sweet feeds (in the molasses used in it) is the reason cited in most of what I have read.

Just a few articles that I have saved links for....

Edited to just clarify that the cause of polio in goats is a thiamine deficiency that can be brought about by several things, sweet feeds with molasses just being one of them.

As far as I know, she is on the mend. They haven't called me again and they were giving her the B injections and going to switch up the feeding program. I might give her a buzz to see but I think no news is good news. ;)
