You might look on the ADGA site to see who is close to you and contact them to sample. Or look on craigslist some people advertise on there .

You will want to sample milk from several farms, and different breeds of goats.

Some goats have very nasty and or goaty flavor.
Some are very high in butterfat.
Some are more like 2%.

If they let bucks run with does then the milk will be :sick.
Handling makes a big difference also.
The faster the milk is strained and chilled the better the taste.

When I first tried goats milk we already had goats. We had gotten milk and cheese from one of the people we bought a goat from.

:sick :sick :sick I thought "oh my gosh-what have we done, this is disgusting!"

When she called and asked how I liked it I was honest. :hide
She didn't talk to me for a year!

What I didn't know was she kept her buck full time with the does and his nasty was affecting the milk.

We did breed the doe we got from her and she had the sweetest richest milk! Not nasty at all. 2nd best milk on our farm, and some say the best.

One day the breeder called and told me she had heard keeping bucks with does can make the milk taste bad... she pulled her buck out and said her milk and cheese tasted so much different.
:lol::lol::lol:

She said she just had always had her milk that way (5 years) so it was all she knew but LOVED her "new" milk.

I share this because I have had cheeses and other dairy products from different dairies and different farms. I have had some that literally made me run to the trash can and spit it out, others great.

Even with our milking we have had an off batch or two of cheese, I think from overculturing... not sure... but thought I'd give you a heads up. :)

keep us posted in what you decide! We have Nigerian dwarfs- the 3 does we milked this year each have their own milk flavor which we enjoy.

@ Southern by choice provided some great information!
