Hi! I'm an apprentice zookeeper at a large facility in CA--I'm assigned to our contact yard with pygmy, nubian, and boer goats as well as Blackbelly/Khatadin sheep. This forum looks really useful, I'm glad I found you guys!

ETA - since you're a zoo keeper you might find this particular thread funny....or at least I hope you do! We all had a good laugh about it!

Welcome! I bet you will have some interesting stories for us!

How are the goats used at the zoo? Are they in a petting farm? Are the breeds displayed individually? Do you have a buck on display?

My goats are afraid of strangers, I suppose zoo goats would become pretty accustomed.

They are in a contact/petting yard, all mixed in one group. We have 6 males, 5 females, all of our males are castrated. Our goats are definitely not afraid of people! The sheep are much shyer, but are becoming more tolerant.

Well, that is quite the little herd. What do you hand out for the folks to feed them?
