Does anyone here make goat's milk soap & sell it on that big auction site that starts with an E?
I ask because it seems to be cheaper to get it there than buying it outright, including shipping.
Locally, I can get a 3-4 oz bar for right at $6 or so.
On the auction site, I can get it for $3 or less!
If you particiapte in that auction site, please let me know. I would just as soon give you my business than someone I really don't know.

Hi over on Back Yard Chickens they have it for auction and it is 3.50 a bar and 4.95 for shipping up 5 bars.

I have bought it 3 times now and LOVE it...

She has a web site I will see if I can get it for you..

3-4oz for $6? Guess my pricing is low! I haven't started selling yet - that is next year's plan, but here's how I think I'm going to price them:

Guest Bars ~ 2.5 oz/bar -------- $2.00 each, 3 for $5.00
Goat's Milk Bars ~ 4 oz/bar ----- $3.00 each, 2 for $5.00
Log Bars ~ 4 oz/bar ------------- $3.00 each, 2 for $5.00
Goat Kid Bars ~ 7.5 oz/bar ----- $5.00 each, 2 for $8.00

Thank you both for responding!
Bare Bottom, I would love to have the website if you have it.
Glenolam, I like your prices--wish you were making it now! I'm hoping to be making it by this time next year myself. Don't think I'll do any selling, but I love the stuff!

I've been making it for about 6 months now - just got in a shipment of oils and butters the other day! I don't yet sell my soap because I need to learn more about it and find out all the good (and bad) properties as well as get my little 'business' together. I have several people in my town who are interested in buying it from me, but for now they have to "deal" with free samples! Sigh.... :D

It does help for when I will start selling! I'll already have a customer base! Making soap is actually quite easy. I've decided to stay very simple and only use a few ingredients. Some people get very extravagant and add 5 or 6 different oils/butters which is great, but I like to find something that works, is easy and stick with it.

Here's the link for the Backyard Chickens site:

Do any of you feel the need to have liability insurance? That's what's been holding me back from selling soap. It'd be just my luck that someone would have a reaction and I'd lose my house over it. I looked into it and it was going to cost like $35-40 per month so I'd have to sell a minimum of 10 bars just to break even on the insurance cost, never mind my time and cost of supplies.

IMO, insurance depends on who you're selling to. If it's just to friends/family members that understand the possibilities, I'd just get an umbrella coverage attached to your homeowners (assuming you're doing a sole proprietorship). If your goal is to sell on the internet to everyone and anyone, $35-$40/mo isn't bad considering all the possibly ways you have to advertise to make up the difference.

Yeah I didn't really think it was a bad price either, but just don't know how much I'd be selling to make it up and suddenly selling 10+ bars seemed like a lot to sell every month. I'm still thinking about it though...
