I just found a Craigslist posting from a woman who has a rabbitry, but she's recovering from surgery and can't take care of them until she's recovered.

Every rabbit - $4.00 each. She has all ages, and is only keeping a minimum of breeding stock to start back up with later.

:D :D :D

I'm going to check it out! I don't need any more breeding stock, but if she has some nice juveniles I might get some good dinner!

Anyone else in central Colorado? I'm going now, I'll report back if she has good healthy rabbits left after I'm gone, if anyone wants me to.

Wow! She really does have ALL ages.

I bought eight 9-week olds.

I had to turn down the seven 5-week olds because I'm now out of cage space - and with this blizzard blowing in I can't use my overflow space because it's not protected from the weather.

She also has a litter of babies (I think she said a week old, they'd have to go with mom still), and I think three other adult does.

Nothing looks purebred, lots of browns and calico colors. And they're on the smaller side for meat rabbits, but they're plenty solid and well muscled. And healthy as far as I can tell - no mites, no runny noses or eyes, no sneezing.

Really strong little rabbits - I helped her move the 5-week olds into a grow-out cage (she really is hurting from her surgery) and they kicked up a storm! Tiny needle claws all over my hands and wrists -ouch!

But I'm pleased with the ones I bought. And now that I'm warmed up, I get to go out and move them from the car into their cage - and somehow not get blown over by the storm! If I drop a rabbit in this weather I'll never find it again, so I better stay upright.

I plan to butcher tomorrow once the wind quiets down.

Are you going to weigh them before you butcher them? I'm always interested to see weights of other peoples rabbits to see where my stand :)

I don't have a smaller kitchen scale yet, but I will be weighing the litter all together and dividing by eight, to get an average. That's good enough for my records, anyway!

And like I said, the adults were smaller than typical meat rabbits, so these juveniles will be smaller too. I'm sure yours will compare most favorably!
