We won't have everything set up for our goats till mid April and I was wondering If it will be realistic to buy doelings and a buckling around then? I know that the breeding cycle for most goats are between oct-jan and at 149 day gestational period that puts me at mid April, but how realistic is this? Most breeders in my area already have reserved or sold all their babies! :( I don't want to buy now and not have a place set up for them, should I just wait till next year?

It is going to depend on where you are, what you want, and who you know. For instance, if you are interested in a Fainter baby, ready to go around the first of April, and are near PA, I can hook you up. I also am (hopefully) going to have some fainter X babies born in May. I am sure where ever you are, you should be able to find something. Might not be your dream goat, but most of the goat owners I know started with less than their ideal and worked their way into the herd they want. Good luck.

It might help if you said where you're from. It is highly dependent on location. Also type of goats.

Not sure about that area but there should be local farm ads you can check. You can try craigslist if nothing else than to point you in the right direction. A lot of breeders will post on craigslist too. You can also google type of goat & your location & it will usually bring up breeders web pages. If someone on here is in your area they may be able to point you in the right direction as well. Good luck!! :)

I like Hoobly.com for finding goats in my area. You really can find them just about any time of year, but more wil be available around the usual kidding seasons.
