So.... Hubby saw Marie go poo today.... It's runny. The person I got her from doesn't normally have sick goats but I'm thinking maybe this is one that was given to her b/c she has a good rep. in finding babies homes where they will be taken care of. I really don't mind nursing an animal back to health I just would like people to be honest and tell me up front if the animal requires help, ya know?...... So, now there is the question of what to do to get her back to health...... She is still eating well.

About 3-4 times a day. Sometimes more than that b/c there are times she won't take much and we try again after a short time... She's not eating much at any given time. Yesterday, the second time I fed her she took 3 oz. My DH said he got her to eat about 6oz. This morning she took an oz.... My DH will be building our goat stand today so once I get Patricia up there then I'm going to see if Marie will nurse from her. :)

Well, today was really rough for me today... I finally decided to take Marie to a vet who sees goats.... They said she had pneumonia and coccidiosis. They gave her a shot of antibiotics and sent me home with a medicine to give her for a week... Within an hour of getting back home she passed away. :( I was SO mad b/c she had been getting along ok (from a visual aspect anyways) and died after getting their help. Maybe it was coincidence, maybe not. The family took it better than other incidences but it's still hard losing a loved pet. We all took turns feeding her..... Anyways, I'm going to leave it at that. Just felt I should update....

I'm really sorry for your loss.

Don't blame the vet. They were likely correct but the "stress" of going to the vet and back home was probably what pushed her over the edge. Goats can be systematically stressed quite easily with "travel".

Thanks everyone... On top of today, I've gotten really sick. I've been feeling a tad crummy for about 2 weeks now but it's caught up with me...

I've wondered, maybe (along with stress of the visit alone) maybe her system went through shock from the shot of antibiotics they gave her?. I'm far from being an expert on things like that but after calming down and thinking a little more about it that's what I'm guessing.... :hu

so sorry for your loss. You sound like such a sweet person willing to nurse sicklings back to health.
