Greetings and welcome to BYH from another Texan, but out east. We have a pretty decent TX contingent here and it keeps growing... always a good thing! Make yourself at home and browse around. jump in when you feel ready. Grats on your new little goats.

Yip Yip Yip some one from Central TX! A big howdy and welcome from North Central Texas, where as you know, the stars at night are big and bright!

Where are you located? We've got a bunch of folks out on the Eastern flank, and a few right nice folks down in the Houston area. A couple new folks are around San Antonio.

Glad to have you here, ticked pink you found us! We love, adore, live by pictures so feel free to start a journal and put up tons of pictures for us addicts. Mega thanks!

Yay, thanks for the welcome. I am west of Austin, in the beautiful hill country. Having lots of fun with our goats so far. Can y'all recommend any kind of situations to chain or rope them so I can get them into some different fields to graze until fencing is complete. I just want to be able to move them around. I would never leave them unattended. My 12-year-old also wanted to be able to walk them around on a leash. I have a breakaway collar, but they just break away from it immediately :)

We use a plastic chain that breaks with a sudden "panic" pull. It is substantial enough to confidently lead the goats (we have Nigerian Dwarfs).

http://www.caprinesupply.com/plastic-chain-collars.html is a good place to start. They also have a package where you can get 30 feet, all the same color, for a good price. I buy it that way and also get a bunch of extra connecting links. When my goaties break a collar I use one of the extra connecting links to put it back together rather than cut off a new collar.

The website says not to use this collar if you are going to tie your goat out... but I can tell you from my experience the collars are strong enough to lead the most determined not to be led goat.

Hope that helps.

Welcome from Indiana! I don't have goats or walk my rabbits, but glad you're here too. Enjoy the folks and all the content.
