OK, I stopped Hannah's kidding thread because of her test results, but am now thinking that if I watch her like a hawk, I can take the babies the minute they are born IF they are doelings. Of course, I might do it even if they are bucklings. They are registered stock.

This morning, she was arching her back, and then her vulva was contracting in and out for a few seconds. I have never seen one do that before, so am wondering.....are these signs she could be getting closer? She only has until Monday to get this done. Or I keep her til she kids.........She has totally frustrated me with her tail bone being totally caved in and soft and her vulva has been puffy for a couple of weeks. When she lays down her vulva bulges out about 3 inches.

Her whole rear end is soft, I can put my fingers totally around her tail down at the bottom. But I've been able to for a while now. Her vulva has been puffy for a while too. I just checked her bag and it is not tight and shiny yet. I just don't want to miss the birth cause I need to get the babies before they nurse so this is nerve racking!:barnie

Why are you needing to take the kids before nursing? Just curious. :)

Maybe the CAE program? Or it could be bottle feeding.

He mentioned in his journal that he got test results back concerning CAE/CL and that some of his new girls came back positive. Hannah must have been one of them. To prevent the kids from getting CAE he was planning on pulling and bottlefeeding. Correct me if I am wrong SD.

Well that sounds right. I understand why'd he would want to do CAE if they came back positive.

That's right, but it was CL. I am going to try and salvage the kids out of the Kiko/Boer doe as she is so close to kidding, and I am hoping she kids this weekend.

I was devastated, and scared to death for my original herd. But I have never put them together ever, because the new goats were so poor in condition, I wasn't worried about diseases at first, because the lady assured me her herd was clean and that she had bought them as babies from a tested herd. I actually thought they might be full of worms, so I have never put them with my does or even on a pasture yet. So I am glad for that foresight.

4 of them are positive for CL and one of the 4 is also positive for Johne's. So we are hauling off all the bedding that was in their stalls when they kidded and disinfecting. Those stalls won't be used for a long time anyway. We will build new kidding pens, like the ones 20K has anyway for this year, in a new area.

What sucks so bad is that 2 of them have already kidded and have drop dead gorgeous babies, large babies, long backs, beautiful heads, long Boer ears. I am so upset these babies have to go, I had 2 of them already sold.
