SO..

I'm standing there with my goats today, petting them, ect.. Nothing out of the ordinary going on..normal activity.. Esther relieves herself.. which is normal..

BUT THEN.. I look and there she is DRINKING HER OWN URINE from off the ground..(when she relieved herself it pooled in the dirt and she just helped herself).. I stopped it immediately.

What is THAT about?!?!

Should I be concerned?

I've seen both my does do that when they are in heat. I can't explain it either (makes me glad I am a human, lol).

I look forward to some explanation as well.

I've been told that they do this to judge their stage of ovulation. If you really take the time to observe you'll notice that they are "drinking" a little and then they do the Fleming response (curling their upper lip) this is to help them smell the urine. The smell of the urine changes throughout their cycle. If you have a buck in with them you'll often notice him "taking a drink" while the doe is squatted. It is normal and throughout the animal kingdom animals use urine smell to tell them many things.

Thank you for the information that's really interesting and I appreciate it!

I had tried looking it up on "Google" before I posted but couldn't find anything on it. I probably wasn't putting the right thing in..LOL

*whew* glad my goat is normal! haha

For a second there I was having serious doubts. ha!:p
