Hey there! I'm new here, but glad to see there's SOMEBODY in Florida with Dexters. I don't have any but would love to get one in the near future, it's just hard as heck to find any right now, it seems.

Your Dexters are super cute and nice looking cows. :)

loganisle- We should have calves on the ground by the end of the year (gotta love Florida-we can calve year-round!). Depending on what we get, there should be weanlings available in the spring. Hoping to take some Dexters to our local fair in April. I also know several good Dexter breeders in Florida, if you are interested in buying sooner. Feel free to PM me for details.

Hi Little Cow,

I just came over from BYC too, I have my first 15 chickens that are now 8 weeks old. Came over here because I plan on adding livestock to our 10 acre property here in Middle TN, and guess what I want? That's right, Dexters! So your posts jumped right out at me. I wanted to say hi, and let you know that I am green with envy over your past work at cattle ranches and such. I am city born and bred for centuries back and both sides of my family have been astonished at my lifelong attraction to agriculture. Since it was always strongly discouraged however, I am now FINALLY at the point in my life when I can follow my dreams and am learning all I can as fast as I can! Luckily my DH is so supportive (although a little dismayed - HE's not into agriculture!).

So how do you like Dexters? I am really stuck on them after a bunch of research, and hope to be able to get some by spring if we can get our back hill fenced first. There are apparently quite a few breeders in TN, including one who is a good friend's neighbor and lives only 20 mn away. So we're going to check out her Dexters soon and see what we think in person. The purpose would be beef and breeding for conservancy, unless I jump on the dairy bandwagon as well in the next few years.

And before I go... thank you for your service. I was in the Army myself but did not get to stay in very long before we were unexpectedly blessed with our first child. DH was in for 11 years and is an OEF veteran (Afganistan 2001). I miss the military like he** sometimes but can't imagine making our three kids share me with the Army.

Nice to "meet" you!
