Hi everyone. I'm a recently retired veterinary nurse who moved from the suburbs to the country. I've discovered chickens as pets and joined Backyard Chickens. Now I have a pot-bellied pig and have already posted my first question about her. I've learned so much from Backyard Chickens and I'm sure to receive a lot of helpful information here regarding my pot-bellied pig.

Hello and welcome to BYH from Florida :frow There are plenty of pig people in the herd here and I am sure they will answer any questions you may have....we have goats , chickens and meat rabbits :thumbsup
Hi B & B Happy goats. I hope my post went up okay. I don't see it yet so not sure if I did it correctly. It asked me to tag someone so it would post but I didn't know anyone so I picked the first person that popped up when I typed the letter "A". Hopefully it wasn't just sent to them. :idunno

Greetings and welcome to BYH from Tn! So glad you joined us. Look around and see what interesting stuff you can find. You'll get to "meet" folks at the same time. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Oh, and we all love pics, so post them anytime you feel the need! Please make yourself at home!
PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me will never remember from this post & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!

Welcome to BYH from Northeast Texas. I am a retired nurse, as well, but of the human variety. :D We moved here from South Central PA, back in 2014 and have since totally adopted the homesteading lifestyle. We now have five dairy goats, as well as a Myotonic buck, to put meat on our kids. In addition, we have too many chickens, to count, as well as ten ducks and three guineas. We love every one of our animals.

You have come to the right place to learn about raising farm animals. We have many knowledgeable people, here. Many of us also have chickens, ducks, geese, etc., so don’t hesitate to ask, if you have questions about raising birds as well.

ETA: Well, actually, we have SIX dairy goats. One of our does recently had the cutest doeling. We named her Calendula, and she has already won my heart! :love When she is out running around, she runs up to me and wants me to pick her up, for a cuddle. That just makes me melt! :love

Here she is in DH’s lap

And here she is with her very devoted Mama Goat (Angelica).

Angelica is the BEST mama we have had, to date. She keeps a very close eye on her little girl. If she gets out of sight, Angelica RUNS to where she is, and then she has to sniff her butt, to make sure it’s Calendula. If any, of the other goats get too close, Angelica lowers her head and tries to head butt them, to keep them away. It just cracks me up, to watch her being a good mama. :love
