Hello there BYH!

We are a small hobby farm in northeast Ohio. We bought 3 acres 2 years ago and started with animals back in April. We purchased 3 Nigerian dwarf goat kids, 2 doelings and a whether, and 10 chicks.

We have 2 young girls, 5 and 1. They are loving the country life and having the animals have been an amazing experience for the entire family.

We intend to breed them at some point. And will consider at that point if we wish to transition into milking or just keep loving their companionship.

Look forward to connecting with other likeminded folks and look to learn from their experiences.

Thanks! I have been a member at BAckyard chickens for awhile and it’s been so helpful. Didn’t even know this group exsisted until a BYC member suggested looking into it!

Greetings and welcome to BYH from NE TX! So glad you joined us. Thanks for the pictures! LOVE the little goat standing on hubby's back/shoulders. They do love to climb! I've had them do that to me while milking. Always an adventure! There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

We have wanted them even back when we lived in the city. I wanted a small dairy breed that the girls would likely not get pushed around by, or not too much.

I was torn between mini Nubians and the Nigerians. The deciding factor ended up being the mini Nubians are next to impossible to find in Ohio. My dad was going to pick some up for us in Iowa on his way back from visiting family in Kansas but it seemed to be getting very complicated.

So for now Nigerians are what we have and we love them. My oldest would be happy if they never got any bigger but i think that’s a pretty standard feeling for small baby animals!

That little doe jumped on him that first night they were here as we were corralling them into their stall. It was quite a hilarious undertaking the first night. And when i say like lap dogs i am not exaggerating ! Often time i go out to the pasture and he has 2 and sometimes all 3 goats cuddling on his lap.

I wonder what will happen once they are full grown?!? ;)

I don't own Nigies, but from what I've read, I expect that they'll stay just as "in your pocket" as they mature. They are friendly animals. :D
