:welcome from New Jersey

Look forward to hearing the verdict on what cow you decide to bring to your farm.

Thank you for the welcome, Ms Research!

I will update this when we decide. In the meantime, I will be picking some BYH brains to help answer some questions to find the best fit for us.
Feel free to toss any advice my way!

Hi from one OKie to another. We're in the East Central part (Green Country) and have been on our place about 3 years. We have Nubian goats and have been to OSU's "goat boot camp" twice. Lots of info on goats.

OSU has a wonderful vet college in Stillwater, and a goat research in Langston, OK.

You are in the right state to raise animals.

We also have coyotes, but they have not bothered any of our chickens or goats so far. We listen to them at night, they are sure noisy this year....

We use electric poultry fence for our chicken yard. We use electric wire fencing for our goats, never had a problem.

Welcome to BYH's you have found a great website and lots of really knowledgeable folks from all over the world. The search area is great, just type in the subject and you'll get a lot of information.....

Hi DonnaBelle!

Its nice to meet another Okie! We moved from the Big Town (as Gary would say) to Blaine County. WOW what a change.
I attended OSU after my divorce but I have been on a very long break (5 years LOL) to stay at home and take care of my kids, an ADHD energizer child and an Aspergers syndrome child. My eldest child moved back home (college break *gasps*). I am having a BLAST!
I am going to look up this goat boot camp you mentioned because we are brand new at this! We must be doing something right because they seem fat and happy, as fat as a dairy goat can be anyway. My husband dealt with horses and cattle in his home state of Utahbut goats are a whole nother animal! (I didnt know how to type that okie speak LOL)
I was looking into the electric net fencing, as it would be easier to rotate the animals from one area to another. I am on the fence as to which direction to go. Pardon the pun.
Right now we have 2 enclosures for the goats that we rotate. We are still in the process of fencing our property on all sides. Luckily my husband is talentedand owns a welder. He is promising me a pipe fence. I hope it isnt a pipe dream. I will keep you posted.

Nubians are just so cute! If you ever have wethers that need a home, hit me up! Benny needs a companion. I will take your most cantankerous wether. He would get along perfect with Benny. Deep down I know Benny loves a big hugthen he remembers that he is supposed to be studly. Benny is a full time job.

Nice to meet you!

Hi EllieMay! The Polish chicks are full of personality! They are the first to greet us and fly up to our lap. When we first saw them, they had lil mohawks. Now its a full blown crest. What kind of layers were your Polish chickens? Thank you for the welcome, elevan!
Layers!?

You mean, like, EGGS??? :gig

I don't think my Polish chickens knew they were supposed to lay eggs! I would get one MONSTER egg maybe once a week . . . maybe.

But their cuteness made up for the lack of eggs.

:)
