Chillin' with the herd
Well, I guess I'm doing more "investigative" work that anything.
We don't currently have any "herd" unless you count our 2 Greyhounds as a herd! I mean, they ARE about the same size as a goat... I wouldn't recommend trying to milk them tho...
My name is Jacque (like the American Jackie[Yes, I'm American, but my mom is Cajun... and crazy]), my husband is Sam, we have 2 kiddos, our son Monk (who will be 13 31Dec2011) and Bug our 8 going on 18 year old daughter. My husband just got out of the Marine Corps (SEMPER FI!) and will be going back to college so he can get a nice job and we can have the farmette of our dreams. We want to be mostly self sufficient, if not 100% self sufficient off of our land. We are planning on about 20 acres, give or take, with some meat cattle, dairy goats, meat and egg chickens, organic garden, orchard, and bee hives! I want to learn as much as possible BEFORE we buy our land and start our farm!
Currently, we have our kids, our dogs (2 Greyhounds, 1 American Eskimo) 6 raised bed, 3 more being built, 2 blueberry bushes, 2 apple trees, 1 pear tree, 1 mulberry tree, 4 raspberry bushes, and 4 grape vines. We're hoping to get a chicken coop up late winter/early spring and toss some chicks in there for some nummy eggs.
I can't WAIT to learn from all of you guys about backyard herds!!!
