I have been milking a saanen doe since since late December 2010 and until the last 2 weeks her milk has been very sweet and creamy. 2 weeks ago her milk became "goaty". At the time she was within maybe 30 feet of a buck but I read that she didnt need to be near the buck because that could cause the "goaty" flavor. I moved the buck and it has been 8 days and her milk is still "goaty". I am very clean with the milk and it is cooled immediately after milking. She is fed the same thing she has been fed the entire time. Omolene 200 sweet feed and hay. The funny thing is that if you drink the milk after it has been strained but is still warm it still has that wonderful sweet flavor but if you wait until it is cooled off it gets that "goaty" flavor. Any suggestions??

Hmmm, my milk goes "goaty" after about three days in the fridge. I don't know what to say, I do know the "musk" from a male can permeate many things....

Did she kid in Dec, or did you buy her then / she's been fresh a while?

I know a doe in late lactation can get a 'funky' taste to their milk.

She did kid in December. I waited about 2 weeks before I started milking her. I only turn her out to pasture every now and then. She prefers to stay in the barn; I have to make her go out when she does. I guess she doesnt like to compete with the other goats? I was wondering, if it was the stinky billie that made her milk turn goaty, how long will it take to turn sweet again?
